This entry is part 1 of 3 in the series Naked Truth About

In the second of the series: “The Naked Truth About…” I am focusing on Collapse Transformations/Continuously Rasterize switch. The power of this little sun you see by each layer is huge. Some of the options are obvious, but some of you may be surprised with one or the other behavior. We’ll learn how to work efficiently with vector graphics, with pre-composed 3d layers or with some effects that use other layers as inputs. Have Fun!

Really interesting tutorial. Definitely some things I never knew about that little switch. Thanks!!!

Thanks for another useful tutorial. Please make more of those, I like the theoretical way of learning After Effects :) Thanks!

      Me too man!

Great Tutorial, Bartek! Very straightforward and easy to follow.

Awesome Tutorial man! This is gonna help with what I am trying to make and save me so much time. Thanks a lot!

  • dondemon

Awesome for what? WTF? Are you f… kidding me? It’s simple as the example. Another boring tutorial read from paper by pollack. It’s naked truth about many tutorials made by beginners. You didn’t show anything more than everyone can check by him/herself.

Next time I think it will be naked truth about rendering etc.

Hi “dondemon”. Thank you very much for your deep thoughts about my little tutorial.
I don’t remember exactly when we have met, but I’m sure we have… Otherwise how would you know that I am a beginner?
I know that my 8 years working with After Effects and 15 years in the industry means nothing to you.
You surely are more talented than me and have more experience.
Fortunately every tutorial have a little note that says what difficulty it has, so you don’t have to waste your valuable time to watch tutorials for beginners made by beginners like me.
I feel honored having a chance to read comments of gurus like you.
      Best Regards

Hey, Bartek, don’t waste your energy this way :D Those trolls will always be there :)

I also was in a little shock after a simple trick with that button.. And this method will definitely prevent me from sweating in the future :)

Thank you so much for showing it up!

Awesome for Beginners and Pros alike to refresh some Knowledge you friggin Moron ! Trolls like you shouldn´t have Access to a computer in General. You are the kind of Person that really makes me loose hope for humanity, hating on a genuinely nice guy who gives away his valuable time to teach people some basic stuff….
      so go F… yourself.

sorry for the bad language on this Blog but Morons trigger that side in me :)

nice tut! simple tool that can bring us a lot… it´s a beginner tutorial for sure but what´s the problem? there is a warning at the top saying that.

    congrats!

  • rg

thanks for the tutorial, i’m re-learning after effects after a very long (15 years) break from it and tutes like this are very handy.

Hi! Thanks so much for this tutorial. Great job on this one! :) It has clarified some stuff for me even though I was working with those options earlier.
But still, Bartek, could you explain something to me? I’ve got a problem with vector layers on which I use Puppet tool. Lately I was animating a character (couple of vector layers, continuously rasterized, 3d, pre composed together) and when I put this composition in main comp and scaled it, puppet tool destroyed the elements, it went crazy, me too.
    .
Any advice on using continuously rasterize and 3d together with puppet tool?
    .
    .
and btw, good to see you on ae tuts. :)

  • Steven

    Nice tut ! :D.

Althought i miss one thing (or maybe I’m doing something wrong).

This effe doesn’t work when you have a pre-composed layer with the collapse transformations on into another re-composed layer that has collapse transformations on.

    greetz,

amazing tut! always learn something new.

love the last trick, really going to change my workflow : )

I’m no guru in After Effects nor do I have any impressive work experience statistics, but I do understand After Effects to a certain degree; and that was a great tutorial and it taught me alot. Thanks.

  • stoval

I would love to hear naked truth about pre-compose.

  • Tim

Thanks for the tutorial…I have been struggling to understand Collapse Transformations and your video made everything clear!

    hey, thanks for the tutorial!
I’m still having problems with this function. I’m animating a character and using 3D function, when I then turn on “the sun” I loose the camera settings. How can I have the best quality of my vector character? Is there another option? thanks
