    Hi,

I have limited Bandwidth so before I watch the whole tut has anyone tried this with FCP?

    Thanks

    PS I’m not being lazy

    • http://www.nicolasplaire.com Nick

For FCP, you have the possibility to export your edit as XML [it will export all the basic stuff, like clips, in and out, opacity, don' t think it exports the effects, but I'm not sure... I usually never apply any effect in NLEs] and import it into AE with this script. Check this out!

Nice tip, but I can’t see to follow said steps in FCP 7…the format option is completely greyed out. Any suggestions? thanks

  • http://none Ryan

This is going to save me so much time. Very useful tip!!!. But could if i do everything in vegas, then add in some effects in after effects, can i save it as a .aff in after effects as well? Then i could just open it up in vegas and render the final product. Thanks

Unfortunately I don’t think AE will save as an .aaf, If you figure out a way, let me know… that would be helpful!

      • Juaco

        Great News!!!! Unbelievable………

  • Chris

FCP7 there is no way to save it as an aaf, that sucks but I baught the automaticDuck Pro exporter. It exports the entire timeline from FCP To AE

After Effects CS5 can’t import AAF files.

from the page about what’s enw and changed in After Effects CS5 ( http://help.adobe.com/en_US/aftereffects/cs/using/WS3bf812c123007fb87794c65512708459afc-7ffe.html ):

“Removed ability to import AAF, OMF, PCX, Pixar, and Filmstrip files”

  • Joe

My Vegas only offers .veg & .txt

Is there something I have to change ?

    • Redd

Hey I have the same problem. There’s no option for me to save an .aaf file

Hey interesting tut, I actually made a tutorial about the exact same thing,

    http://www.bluefx.net/blog/import-sony-vegas-projects-to-after-effects/

But I think Adam demonstrates this more clearly.

Very nice, I didn’t see that guy.

  • http://danielbroadway.blogspot.com Daniel Broadway

Todd, why would Adobe remove these abilities? Has something replaced that functionality?

    • http://blogs.adobe.com/toddkopriva Todd Kopriva

In the port to 64-bit, some features that were seldom used did not come along for the ride. We didn’t find that many people actually used AAF import into After Effects. Also, Premiere Pro still imports AAF, and we find that the great majority of people who have After Effects also have Premiere Pro. So, if you need to get AAF information into After Effects, you can do it through Premiere Pro. Yeah, it’s an extra step, but the workaround is there, so we thought that our time was better spent on porting and improving other features in After Effects.

If you want to see AAF import back, please submit a feature request:

I just sent a feature request to put AAF import back in. If you’re reading this, please go to the above link and do the same so they get the hint.
