If you’re having trouble with After Effects hanging or crashing, make sure that you’ve installed the latest updates ( http://adobe.ly/lsrkmJ ). They fix a lot of problems.

Great tip Joe, but to save yourself looking through the activity monitor etc you can use this handy OSX app http://aescripts.com/ae-suicide-after-effects-crash-recovery/

Hi Joe, thanks for that tip. I liked it so much I build a tiny shell script out of it. Have a look over here https://github.com/fabiantheblind/killae

      Great.

An extra touch is to open Automator
      Create an Application
In Library, select Utilities (or search for Run Shell Script)
Double click on Run Shell Script
Remove cat and paste the script into the window (I used the second version that just killed the latest.)
      Then save the Application.

There you have an application that you can put into your dock and run whenever in need.

Here is another one as a mac app. Runs on your status bar with the ability to auto launch and shutdown when AE is running. http://toejam.990adjustments.com

If it’s platform dependant tip or tutorial it would be great if it was stated somewhere in surrounding text, or even better in the headline. The first sign that this is Mac only tip is exactly halffway through the video.

This isn’t a critique of the Joe’s tip. It’s about editorial decisions surrounding the tip. Luckily, in this case of short tip I wasted only one and half minute to realize this won’t work for me. Please keep this in mind for future tutorials – it’s super frustrating for your readers.
