Final Product What You'll Be Creating
We’ve had a few tutorials in working with 3ds Max and AE, and even more with C4D, but there have been lots of requests for help in working between Maya and AE. In this tutorial we will be creating a 3D billboard in Maya, then bringing it over to AE for the design application.

Hi, great tutorial and in depth explanation. But i what to add something u have not said i think. One of the problems i encountered is that the camera in maya must be free camera. I have try tens of times whit targeted camera and not working, resolution the same, pixel aspect the same but if i use target camera in maya nothing matches anymore. Another problem is when u change from Settings the fps to another frame rate( maya is default to 24fps set) the animation will begin at 1.03 or something like that. You must set the beginning of the animation to 1.00 or 2.00 or a frame number without comma, else if u bake the key frames and try to import in Ae u will get AEGP error, inconsistent number of key frames.
Dude, you need to adjust those settings BEFORE you start to animate anything or adjust every keyframe manually after which is a pain if you animated something serious. Also, I recommend you that you put your first keyframe in 0 not in 1 ( many ppl use even -10 or so in things like character animation because even if it does not render, they put the character in T position there to have easier access)
Fantastic tutorial man, thank you.
