This entry is part 4 of 5 in the series Breath Of Life

In this 4th installment I’ll be looking at some of the more advanced animation techniques in After Effects. I’ll show you how to create a looping walk cycle; a useful trick to save you time and hassle, and also how to work with 3D layers and animating Masks.

    Really enjoying this series. It’s helped me to see that doing animations like this is something I can tackle, I was pretty intimidated at first.

    As some general feedback for you, the tutorials feel a little slow to watch, though I’m not animating along side of watching them. Also, in terms of ae.tuts attracting people back to their site each day with this series, its working! I’ve been back everyday this week, eagerly waiting for the next day!

      Totally agree with Luke. Hope after these basics more advanced animations. Maybe running, interactions, camera movements, lipsync, body angles, face expressions… And yeah all that and a bag of chips.

      Definitely! In my work I rarely have much turnaround time. This shows me that with well thought out planning I can make simple and effective animations!

    thanks!!!… you are awesome… :)

    you’ve got this videocast thing down pat … well done!

    These videos have been amazing and beyond helpful!

    Just wanted to throw this out there for anyone who has an issue with the expression:

    loopOut[cylce] did not work for me at all, after doing a little extra research I found;
    loopOut(“cycle”,0) which is the same thing and worked like a charm.

    Thanks again for this series. As a beginner I’ve learned so much already!

      In CS3, this needs to be loopOut(type=”cycle”)

    Really enjoyed the tutorials. The only suggestion is to record them in HD next time as sometimes is hard to decipher the expressions typed, etc.

    thanks!

    This series is great. Really got me into studying animation, something that I always wanted to learn, but felt intimidated before.

    I know this tutorial had been launched more than one year ago, but must ask: I did the walking cycle, the loop is done and working. But I didn’t get how to move this walking cycle from one composition to another. Somebody can help me with that?

    Thank you!
