We spend so much time trying to
make footage look old… but what if your footage already is old? I guess you’d have to color it then, right? That, and take junk out. So here’s a basic tut to walk through how it can be done.

Overview

  • Core Training Value: In this tutorial we will take a black and white scene and convert it to color and we will also be doing some object removal.

    Very cool tutorial!

  6. nice tutorial… but why are you (the tutorial-speaker) yelling throughout it all? I’m using headphones, I have volume control. You don’t have to worry that I might not hear what you say as long as you don’t mumble It’s tiresome to listen to a person that constantly speaks in all CAPS even if I turn the sound down. just like reading posts in all caps… no matter if its size 72 or size 8. It’s still caps-lock engaged.

  7. Hao Luo says:

  8. I think you should watch my tut also converting B/W footage to color which I made last year in April.

Are you f**king kidding?! I have to wait 70 seconds worth of ads to just watch a 15 second preview of the project. Eff that. Now THIS is worth complaining about if you’ve got a plus account, having to sit through ads even if you pay for the tutorials.

  16. Thomas says:

    Awesome Ads!

  17. Nice! And the clip is from It’s A Wonderful Life, great movie :D

Jay H, you are a thief ! You have stolen the idea from Chandan Kumar’s VFXRider B/W to color video tutorial http://vfxrider.com/files/bw_to_color.swf. You are such a sick and shameful person that you didn’t give the credit to him!
I hate your tut and your sucking voice.Go and steal some more tuts, moron!

This is a good tutorial. All you guys who are complaining about him being too enthusiastic are full of it. It was just as informative as any other tutorial I’ve seen on here. Tutorials take a lot of time and effort to make and these guys are doing it for free. Show some appreciation.

P.S What’s the real reason that you don’t like the tutorial? I’m willing to bet I know the right answer to that but I’ll leave it alone.

  30. sun of a peach says:

    kill me , it can’t download what”s the matter….

  31. Arctic says:

    Hey man,

thank you for a great tutorial, i honestly appreciate it.

    I have a problem though:

After cloning an retouching, and painting and everything, I need to export it as .png, as you suggest, but i can’t seem to manage that, and you’ve cut it out of your tut.

What are the exact settings for exporting, let’s say, the pigeon part?

I’ve done my mask adjustments on the duplicated layer, added that layer on the render queue. Now what? It exports the whole comp, not only the frame I need.

Same goes for the cloning part. Paint on transparent, switch to transparent.. and then?

Thank you, would be great if you could settle this one, in dummies steps.

  32. JAY H says:
