Animating a mouth realistically required a lot of work, time and keyframes. In this tutorial we use this new After Effects tool to make a car talk. It’s a quick and easy process and can also be used to create a talking mouth for any other object. Be sure to check out this contest as well!

    Is the native motion tracking function in after effects ok for this if you don;t have mocha? Any suggestions / tips / things to look out for / be aware of?

    I have downloaded this tutorial and also tried to watch without downloading and I come across the following problems:

    a) No sound
    b) The video jumps and stalls at every 2 seconds

    Can anyone let me know what I am doing wrong?

    Very nice sricpt! I was quite impressed hearing that an AEscript can analyze audio like this.

    How does it work under the hood? Analyzing the waveform in terms of loudness and applying that to a movement “mouth closed” and “mouth opened”?

    There’s also another a little bit easier solution for the tounge problem. It should work if you put a composition sized solid on top of everything and turn it into “Stencil alpha”. Should avoid problems with any kind of object reaching out of the bounds inside the stabilized PreComp.

    Dumb question, but how is the lip-synching reflected in the window? It’s outside of the mask of the auto lip-syncing, yet still shows the lip syncing…?

    How do you make an auto lipsync effect if your footage is shaky (unstabilize footage)

      Track footage and set to Stabilize. Add lipsyc to stablized footage. Then re-apply camera movement with track. (reverse the Stabalization)

    Quick question, why does the mouth open a little bit when the plug-in is applied? Because now the mouth can’t close all of the way.

      I figured it out. there needs to either be a point where there’s no audio, or just pull the value on the voice volume to 0.
