Final Product What You'll Be Creating

This entry is part 9 of 20 in the Keying and Rotoscoping Session
« PreviousNext »

In this tutorial we will learn how to create an advanced and well composited Jumper Punch by using a matte, some displacement, and smoke to add style to the final effect. Throughout the tutorial, we will be using basic expressions. We’ll learn to position the jumps in time and space and give the illusion of a jumper disappearing and reappearing with a trajectory. Let’s “Jump” in… :)

      Author

I’m sorry, but there’s no part 2. I left the tutorial on that point because I wanted you guys to create your own jumper punch wave and not copy mine, which people didn’t like so much. :(

So yeah, that’s the tutorial! :D
      Thanks

      • Lawrence Liu

if you did the jumper punch wave on the tutorial i wouldnt have copied it i would have modified it a bit

The final result has really great timing and animation, well done.

What a tallented kid. Great future ahead!

Really in-depth tutorial, great job and fantastic end result. The only thing I recommend is to try to limit your “experimentation” and subtle tweaking, perhaps edit it out or speed it up so viewers don’t have to watch redundant steps :) Also, maybe you could’ve composited a quick shadow on the floor, but great job!

    • Kurtis Thomas

I disagree. I love seeing experimentation, its interesting to watch someones thought process and learn from that rather then watch a simple A to B of how the effect was made. So much can be learned by watching someone experiment!

      • http://www.creativedojo.net VinhSon Nguyen

Yes, showing experimentation in a tutorial is good, I too enjoy seeing experimentation and tinkering, but perhaps limit it a bit or cut out the less important tinkering ;) I guess it just depends on what youre looking for: generic techniques or an in-depth process :)

Looks sweet! Will be certainly checking this one out this evening :)

    WELL DONE Benjamin !
    And you’re only 15 years old .
    Keep going !!

  • Vfxbros

Pretty boring tutorial, too much stuttering and unfunny side comments. Get to the point please and tell us how a 15 year old got his hands on AE and Action Essentials.

Well, hi there. First of all, thanks for the tip. I will be looking forward to making more tutorials and correcting that aspect. Second, Can’t I buy After Effects like everyone else does? What’s the problem if I have it? And just so you may know, I spent all my 14th birthday money that people gave me, plus some of my saved money, and bought After Effects.

Thank YOU sir for your constructive and questioning comment that made me get things clear,

he is learning AE and he share some skills he had… Why you need to be so bad?
he can be the future of this business, if you was an adult you wont act like that….

    • Chris

I was already working in the design business when I was 15. I got an internship at a design studio, and used my earnings to buy my first copy of photoshop (3.0) and quark xpress (lol).

Don’t presume to know everything about someone because of their age. Its wonderful to be able to learn this stuff at 15, and cultivate a real thirst for learning and a passion for your work at such a young age. Don’t try to stifle that with your cynical world view.

There are student discounts for adobe products, and action essentials isnt that expensive.

    • E

Yeah I’m gonna call bs on saving your bday money to get this kiddo. I also see Maya, Cinema4D, multiple versions of Adobe programs. Pretty sure these are some “aquired” programs.

However, you do have a future in this. Decent work.

  • Kevin

One thing I didn’t like about the final is it looks like you are winding up with your left hand in mid air, only to strike a blow with your right hand when landing. Other then that, not to bad of an effect.

    • Demian!

Agree! It looks like he’s going to punch with the left hand but does with the right! O.o But the tutorial is amazing! Really good kid!

  • Steve

    sii ahh paaap

Why do you say this, deck? You can open .MOV files on both Windows and Mac. Maybe you’re not using the right software, try Media Player CLASSIC.
