  15. chetan says:

its really awesome.. finally a good tut worth a lot of wait in this website..
just an addition- u could have added a sense of vibration when the fire ignites.. the tension that builds up had kept me waiting for one.. just an suggestion, not advice :)

  16. Vincent says:

    Which lenses did you use?

  17. CRR NTN says:

great job, especially for the simulation of heat into the air surrounding in the girl.

  18. Kurt says:

Hey man great tut I have that same cam. What did you use to help stabalize but still give it that hand held look? Also what did you use to color correct?

  19. morstua says:

    finally a good tutorial
i was getting bored of other tuts

    i love movies’ effects

  20. xsid says:

the integral part is the sound.
    where it came from?

    • Author

although it wasn’t the focus of my tutorial, you’re exactly right! but i did explain a fantastic website for sound effects towards the end of the tut which is where i get most of my sound effects. It’s the Free Sound Project, and its essentially a community driven, quality sound effects website. here’s the url:
      http://www.freesound.org

  21. Erwann says:

  22. alireza says:

  24. tvandang says:

Oh yeah, “Fire is Hot”. LOL. thanks for the TUTS.

  25. Wow, nice effect. I would love to have my arms burning. And all that burns I had, if I knew I wouldn’t have put fire on myself :) ))

Seriously, great tutorial. I think AeTuts is getting back to advanced tuts.

  26. Mark says:

    Hot stuff man, awesome

  27. Rohan Henry says:

    what camera do you use?

  28. Author

WOW!! ok what timing on this. Look what just came out! Specifically about 3:50 in.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uelHwf8o7_U

That’s a GREAT example of REALLY good flame on stuff!!! It looks like VCP’s Action Essentials 2 as well! I noticed that they went kind of towards the minimalist route, Less fire but in well placed spots. I thought it looked really good. They also had less Displacement “heat” from the fire than i did which i also liked.

So yeah, use the music video as a guide to something that looks good and my tutorial for the idea on how to do it.

  29. za says:

Thanks I was looking for it!

  30. Andrea says:

Great tutorial, very congrats! Excuse me, i have a question for all ae people. Can anyone talk me about witch is best setting for exporting TOD files by MPEG STREAMCLIP with best quality?

  31. Modow says:

What was the name of the movie that featured a woman who also had fire powers?

  32. Ware says:

Ehm, it sure looks awesome and all, and I’m having alot of fun with AfterEffects these days.
But I have one problem.. At about 4:07 after he has just inverted the first flames, to make the heat haze, there’s a “ehhm”, and suddenly the movie skips, and you have appereantly added something to the mix, as the heat haze is now transparent.

For all of you out there who knows AE well, this might not be anything, but for someone who follows the tut pretty straightforward, this one threw me off. Care to explain?

    • Ware says:

Nevermind, just basically didn’t show the layer anymore, wich makes sense, concidering you’re only gonna use that layer as a displacement map…

  33. David says:

Can you post the video without the fire? …I really want to try this tutorial and I’m not have footage to apply this amazing effect :S Thanks for the excelent tut :)

  34. nathan says:

The fire is hot, the girl is hot, and the tuts is awesome… it burns me up! Is this free download? I’m gonna DL this. thanks :)

  35. Kevin says:

WHY is footage missing from the zip folder??!?!? i got a premium membership for the source files and they are missing!!

  36. Kevin says:

can i have my money back? the term “source files” is misleading. you make it sound like you get what you need to make the video. i paid 9.99 for nothing!!!
