DIY – Shower Head Perspective Rig

DIY – Shower Head Perspective Rig

Tutorial Details
  • Requirements: A Home Improvement Store and a Hose
  • Difficulty: Beginner
  • Run Time: 4:09 min

In today’s tutorial I’ll show you how to create a very simple rig that you can use to simulate a shower head perspective or garden hose sprayer. For less then $5 you can add a new dynamic shot to your arsenal of possible camera angles. **One thing I didn’t mention in the tutorial is that you have to let the glue dry before you put the tape over it… otherwise it WILL leak.

Nice effect and I really like the ingenuity. If you wouldn’t mind some constructive criticism: for the tutorial – really – the music detracts and is overpowering to the dialog. For tutorials, music is usually added, non-competitively to the dialog, during tedious segments where either the director needs “fill” for timing purposes or the necessary visual explanation outstrips the dialog too long and otherwise would try the viewers patience. Definitely there is no need to generate emotion like is done in an entertainment video; AND, believe me, your tut was so well planned out and scripted that, perhaps except for the opening and tag, it needed no music at all – especially at this short length. After all, the viewers goal here is to learn your technique not listen to music.

If, however, you have an audio guy who would otherwise have a tantrum, music should not be merely plunked in and left there. It definitely needs attenuation based on the breaks in dialog. And, should never be at a percentage level where it competes with the instruction, like it does here.

The green screen is a nice touch for a video tutorial about videos – and I liked the rustic look of your stand/prop – both of which clearly convey “DIY” which is the intent.

Good idea! Best ideas comes from solving problems in a creative way instead of avoiding them, at least in my case. How do you see the LCD of the camera with the bag? I guess it’s another problem to solve :)

I just didn’t close the bag all the way… just had it resting in an open bag so I could see the back side of the camera.
