Final Product What You'll Be Creating

In this tutorial we will be making a network tv style Venetian Blinds Transition Effect. This tutorial includes several expressions used to automate the movement of layers, control dozens of adjustment layers, and control rotation from a gradient layer!

Part 1 explains the concept and builds the bulk of the shapes used to create the effect. We also start to get into using gradients to control the layers. Part 2 finishes the gradient control layers and begins fine tuning the look with motion. Part 3 finishes the tutorial with lights, adjustment layers, expressions, camera animation, and final tweaks.

Once you build the out the project, you can use it for anything just by modifying a few layers. Check it out!

The Tut is ok-ish, I really would think something mind blowing coming from a guy who claims “Dave Bode is the leading expert on video and audio production in the upstate NY area.”

He often looks lost around the application quite a bit too and tries to cover up that with fake laughs, exaggerated sighs and tries too hard to be whimsical.

Otherwise it was interesting to see this qualify as something we pay to see, meanwhile Antonio Cerri’s tuts which are far more complex and in depth are always free tuts.

I dont know how you guys did it but the simple way to do it is to use card dance under simulation……AE-tuts need to do better

The tutorial was actually pretty interesting to watch considering how basic the Venetian Blinds effect is. Although I agree with Raymond’s comment on the “lost”, “laughs”, and “sighs” part, it was a pretty good tutorial with a in-depth approach to the effect. Great work!

    Son of a…

I just used this effect for the intro of my demo reel I’m going to be posting soon! Now everyone will think it was from a tutorial ;)

I actually did it in 3D though, so I should be good! I found that rather ironic though :)

I like the emphasis of the Venetian Blind effect here. This is not bad for a tutorial at all, at least for someone like me who needs really specific DIY solutions. Also I like the automation expressions used in this tutorial especially when it comes to handling all the layers.
