In this tutorial I am going to show you how to create a very nice animation based in solids by using very simple effects and camera movements. All of this will be done totally inside After Effects and using nothing else than solids, rotations and camera postions. We will learn how to put a small box inside a bigger box to display you images or 3D elements in a cool way.

    Terrible

  2. ramesh says:

looking good !! transitions should be more faster

  3. Mike says:

Has potential but I would prefer more movement after the camera shifts, a slow drift/wiggle. Actually, the one in your portfolio Marck had that added effect and it looked really good. Really added to it.

Anyway, still a cool way to get a 3D style look using just AE. Thanks for the contribution.

By the way, the guy who said “Terrible.” That does little or nothing for the author or other readers, so I guess you’re saying that for your sake. In which case, congratulations for your useless complaining.

    • jacob says:

sorry dude. terrible is the only right word man. it looks ugly. doing motion graphics is not just to know how it could be done, there is a whole lot more! typography, smooth and esthetic movement and much more is so important. and he even earned money for that?! i mean what shall that be? if you have something good to share, do it. if not, let it be. please man. it’s so easy…

As I have stated in other tutorials (not by me but posted here) is about learning something new, I am not saying I am pro or a highly experienced motion graphics artist but then this is something people who is just starting with AE can use one way or another. Just because you know how to do stuff like this, and then I dont doubt even better, it doesnt mean you have the right to forbid other people from learn how to do stuff like this (as simple as it is). And then, even when I am not into being rude and I do not consider myself a rude person, I will have to say “YOU DONT LIKE IT, DONT WATCH IT”. Let other people learn from my small contribution and make some in your own instead of being cocky and negative.

Also I would like to thank all the possitive comments as possitive criticism is alway welcome, I mean not everyone has to like my tut but then there are more polite way to re mark the aspects I should improve. We all learn from our mistakes and no one but God is perfect, so everything you can do in live to improve yourself is alway something good.

I don’t think it was terrible, I don’t think anything that doesn’t have the potential to become terrible can be terrible. People can be terrible, nature can be terrible, motion graphics at their very worst can only be amateur.
Language is an art as well. “Sorry dude. terrible is the only right word man,” exposes your lack of care when it comes to formulating a thoughtful response. but then of course, I’m sure for most people who post terrible comments about other people’s work without themselves providing a link to their own superior work, their intention isn’t to enlighten, it is to trample.
The poor attitudes of some people that circulate through this site and others like it, are really nothing more than spoiled consumers with an American built (sadly one of few things that are still made in our country) sense of entitlement. Like motion graphics, it’s not what you say but how you say it.

TO ALL THE SO-CALLED PRODIGIES ON THIS SITE: If you’re going to talk “ish” remotely, like a boy, then at least provide a link to your awesome graphics! “Please man, it’s so easy…”

        And Duffle (douche) bag,
stay out of the motion graphics community until you have something more to offer than crap tumbling out of your mouth.

        jacob…
“doing motion graphics is not just to know how it could be done, there is a whole lot more! typography, smooth and esthetic movement and much more is so important.”

A good tutorial exposes a specific technique, not an entire concept. it’s up to the viewer to learn how to do the technique, and then apply it in creative ways to create something beautiful.

I for one greatly enjoy tutorials that don’t try to go too far and end up getting you locked into a style. It’s much better to show a very simple element that can be used in a much more advanced composition with the viewer’s own style and creativity.

Where’s your portfolio? Let’s see it, I’m curious to know what you have to back up your brash words.

      • jacob says:

at first, don’t call me rude. because i’m definitly not rude, aight? you don’t have to agree with my opinion. but i definitly think this tutorial is not worth a 150 dollars. marck, why didn’t you add some smooth movement to the boxes? and some smooth motion blur? what is so difficult to make it look cool even it’s a beginner’s level tutorial? probably it would have been an interesting tutorial for a free tutorial website, but if you really earned money for that… unbelievable… and even if you say it’s for ae beginners it should look cool. but anyway. tutorials like this lower the whole level of ae tuts. at least in my opinion.

i don’t even call me the god of after effects or something like that. i completly appreciate any effort of any dude out there to write / record a tutorial. but for the next time make it more smooth, please.

      • Simon Baeg says:

@Jacob YOU are terrible. It’s a free tutorial for you and you’re still complaining. He deserved that $150 for a great tutorial. Yes it’s not perfect. Nothing is EVER perfect. I might like a movie but you might hate the movie. Besides, if you think creating a tutorial like this is easy, why don’t you record one and earn $150?

      • A few things to say here…

        1. You’re stating your opinion as fact, which reveals ignorance and arrogance.

        2. The point of this video isn’t to be beautiful and polished, it is to explain a technique. If you want to find polished work to criticize, look for a portfolio.

        3. A lot of people who wouldn’t otherwise know how to, for instance, create a cube in 2.5d space, now have a guide to learn how to do so.

The name of the tutorial isn’t “Marck Hernandez’s Incredible New Piece, and how You Can Rip it Off.” And unless you for some reason paid part of that 150 bucks, go back to your computer and add motion blur or whatever effect it is that makes YOUR work look polished.

“Sorry, dude. Terrible is the only right word, man.”

      • Tulaga Whitcombe says:

Well said Jonathan… I think Jacob was just crying cause he missed an op to get some $$$…

  4. Robin says:

    great job marck
i liked the music in the background too.
    your english was fine
    keep up the good work.

  5. Quite amazing love the 3D effect

  6. jink says:

keep fighting the good fight, its tutorials like these that make aetuts a great place to hone your skills.

  7. bob says:

I read the comments before i saw the video and was like aaaa great here is another lame tutorial.. but when i looked at the preview i was confused about what they were talking about.. like sure it is not like so amazing that i’m going to go around to tell all my friends but i didn’t think it was bad… all you losers should def post up some of your work, would love to see you get sliced and diced on here as well…

  8. Martin says:

Everything about this site is a good example of the “bad” websites in the net.
first: to many ads and commercials
    second: premium tuts
and worst of all, most of the people making the comments are rude.

usually if you go to sites like this is because you are looking for tuts to learn AE

for those “Masters” in AE..what are you doing in sites like this? if you are as good in AE as you bragging about .you will not have time to waste in sites like this.

Now if you really want the best of the net.go to VIDEOCOPILOT, lol!

  9. i like it man. eff these haters. it could have a little more going on, but its a tutorial, not a commercial. overall i say good work.

  10. sad guy says:

    Hi!

I think its great that people contribute with tutorials, Sometimes crappy results can teach you a cool technique, but please… You have a responsibility, Look at your own tutorial before posting one,

Do you really want to spread this crappy result around the world, teaching beginners that this looks cool? (yes people think so) Not only does this result in a magnet of negative comments, it also asscosiates your name as a motion graphics designer with crap. I beg you all, you have a responsibility, Look at your stuff and make sure it’s worth sharing with the world before you spread poor quality tutorials.

Actually doing a tutorial is a big effort, why let that effort all go to waste just because you have no selfcritisism.

  11. Abbouh says:

what a great effects thank you!!

  12. Sam says:

I don’t think it was terrible. But in terms of the actual camera movement, it needs some work. Perhaps use the Easy-ease function and a camera wiggle also. Actually I find using VideoCopilots Sure Target 2 is the best solution for the camera movement. Otherwise great job! This is a very useful tut for advertisements.

  13. Sindustries says:

Pro tip: When making your own “custom cubes” make sure you set the 3rd anchor point size to the size of the “cube” your making!

If your cube is say 1234px then the “Anchor Point” will be 1234px and you will make a cube in 3D space regardless of what size of solids you make.

    :D

  14. Dave says:

    I couldn’t make it past minute 11. I’m not saying it’s awful, but it’s really long. I couldn’t do another 35 minutes.

  15. sakura says:

Cool, I didn’t know you could do that. Thanks alot!
