Steve Jabs December 16th
YES! Thank you so much Collis for getting this site up! And thank you Lloyd for putting up the first post. I am so pumped for this site and I can’t wait to see what all this produces! After Effects has always been the piece of software that I have wanted to learn over and above Motion and I have a good feeling that this will be the jumping point for that. Thanks again guys!
( )Matt December 16th
Sweet! Site looks awesome guys! Good start.
( )Andrea December 16th
Unbeliveble!

Wow great! I will love this site now!
( )insic December 16th
first tutorial and its awesome!
( )NOPAY November 8th
hi bb how are u
( )Mike December 16th
The tutorial looks good, but it’s somewhat disappointing that the first tutorial written for the site is already relying on plug-ins that aren’t included with After Effects.
( )Jhay December 16th
Sweet! Looking forward for more tutorials on this new site!
( )Ani December 16th
Great stuff. I’ve been waiting for this blog for the last 5 years!
( )Bobd December 17th
If I can make a suggestion… there should be a way to launch the player in another window or something.
Having dual monitors I like to follow along with the tutorial on my other screen, but if I make the video full screen and then click off of it, it shrinks back down. Sure I can just look at the small one, but it would be nicer if it were larger.
Great tutorial either way!
( )David December 17th
This is awesome!! I’m really excited for this site!
What’s next? FLATUTS??

( )Spartacus December 17th
Trapcode!!!
Why is the first AE Tutorial making use of a plugin?!

congrats on AE tuts ENVATO. Lets have some fun.
( )BogDinamita December 17th
woo hooo!!!! <:-p
( )Chris December 17th
While I enjoyed the tutorial, I think one this long is more suited for a textual based one. Mostly because scrubbing backwards on the timeline is hard since it’s so long. Great effect though!
( )MEGAFATBOY December 17th
Amazing tut, i loved it! It was first time ever using After effects. Thanks so much for teaching me.
( )DKumar M. December 17th

Paris Vega December 17th
Wow.
( )joost December 17th
dam man, i like it so much!
( )this whole envato netwerk is kickaSS!
Mark Bowen December 17th
For the person that asked about the screen capture program I am pretty sure that this took use of iShowU. This is undoubtedly a fantastic application but if you take a look at ScreenFlow you will find an even better utility there. All depends on what you need though really.
Well done on the first tutorial. Looks nice. Just wondering how you are going to differentiate this site from others such as http://www.videocopilot.net though?
Still looks really nice and well done.
( )Randy December 17th
Dude, that ROCKED!
( )Dante December 17th
Thanks a lot! Really, I’ve been waiting for this since ever. Again, thanks a lot!.
( )Diego December 17th

Good tutorial, Lloyd! Thanks for putting up this site. I’m looking forward to more tutorials especially for beginners or for those who are just starting After Effects. Kudos to Skellie and the rest of the ENVATO Team

( )eyetuts December 17th

( )DollaradoDredz December 17th
This is just what i needed.. thanks guys
( )Miss V December 17th
I enjoyed the tutorial, however, it’s a Trapcode Form tutorial not an AE tut.
bummer…
( )Bendikt December 17th
Great tut on applying form, but i would like to see more tuts on the nett without all those plugins:)
( )Dnyanesh December 17th
Are we expecting IDTUTS soon?

( )loswl December 17th
Very cool tutorial, very cool start!!
)
( )Scott December 17th
Glorious!!!
( )Great 1st one…How often can we expect an updated.
Just make sure all the Tuts won’t require purchased plug-ins!
Thanks a ton!!!!!
Zim December 17th
Wow, amazing! Thanks for this tutorial. I’ll see what I can do!
( )r4ge December 17th
Nice new site. I’ve been following the tuts sites for a long time now, i go to them daily. better add this one next
( )Zed December 17th
Great stuff. Glad to see the Tuts series bringing AE on board.
( )humbert December 17th
awsome !!
( )nemkene December 17th
Cool!
( )Garrett December 17th
Umm. the first tut you guys post is one using an intense Plug-in that isn’t free.
You should have definately started with the AE basics, something to really introduce people to AE and show them something to base their skills upon.
( )Christian MEjia December 17th
I will hate you soon for making me realize how going to school for design was pointless, when I am learning more from all of your tut sites. Maybe you should start the Envato School of Design. I’d rather give my money to that school over the school i’m in now! *scratching my head* Great tutorial Lloyd.
( )VertigoSFX December 17th
Wow, im’ really impressed. This is a great looking tutorial and the end product is very professional. Great start guys! I just now need to get a second monitor on this computer so I can watch and do at the same time…
( )Q December 17th
Great tutorial overall and the outcome is nice too. Enough with the good stuff and time for some serious constructive feedback.
I think is an awesome idea that you guys are doing this but my only problem so far with this tutorial(considering its the first tutorial)is the fact that you are using a 3rd party plug-in. BIG NO NO! I say this as a user who has been using after effects for a while and as someone who plays around with it alot. Its not cheap to buy these extra plug-ins. Alot of first time users are not going to be able to afford these plug-ins and even more advanced users still dont use extra plug-ins. Good example would be Aharon Rabinowitz over at creativecow.net, almost all his tutorials that he does uses only the built-in plug-ins that comes with after effects.
I suggest that the authors who write these tutorials should try to stick with the built-in presents and plug-ins. I know that trapcode particular is an awesome program because I’ve used it before but not everyone will have an extra $300 to spare on the plug-in. The effects that are available in trapcode can easily be done with the default plug-ins within after effects. It may take a little longer to accomplish what you want but I think its essential to learn how to do stuff with the default plug-ins for many reasons. The biggest thing for me is not every computer that you work on that has after effects will have the same plug-ins as your personal PCs at home and not to mention the fact that some of these 3rd party plug-ins can be pretty intense on your processor. I can go on and on with reasons why but the point is, it doesnt hurt to learn something from the ground up so you know how to do it without extra plug-ins and it also benefits those who cant afford the extra plug-ins.
This is just my opinion and I’m sure there are a few others out there who are familiar with after effects who also feel the same way. Nonetheless, awesome idea on coming up with the new addition to the family. Hopefully I can find time to make a tutorial that will cover the basics on navigating inside after effects. Good luck and happy animating to everyone.
Cheers,
( )Q
Alex Rojas December 17th
Can’t wait…
The AE tuts idea really inspire me.
Congratulations and good luck
( )wickhamdesign December 17th
i am extremely excited this site is up. i know it will be great because all of envato’s sites are excellent.

Omg Aweeeesoooommmmmmme!!
Love it Love Itttt!
( )Nick December 18th
Amazing addition to the family of TUTS sites!! Please keep high quality professional tutorials like this coming – they are very much appreciated.
( )Rik December 18th
Love it!
( )matt December 18th
nice tut. your video player usability whilst seeking is poor. if seeking, dont animate the controls.
- matt
( )matt December 18th
actually your video player is near unusable. it is sooo buggy man. dont ever do flashtuts :/
( )frederik December 18th
you guys should check out VIDEO CO PILOT great site too
( )Shaun December 18th
I agree with Garrett above.
Your first tutorials should have been ones introducing folks to AE.
I myself have never used it before (although I know “somewhat” of the basics now after following the tutorial). If you don’t know After Effects, its hard to keep up with the tutorial without pausing/rewinding a LOT.
Nevertheless, awesome tutorial! I now have a video with my name in it that actually looks somewhat like what was demonstrated above! Keep up the great work and I’m looking forward to more tuts!
( )Naveed Ahmad December 18th
WOW WOW WOW AND WOW man i m just so happy to know that AETUTS has launched and man this tutorial ROCKS
( )Yohn Dooh December 18th
Awsome tut, but your doing your stuff too fast..SLOW DOWN man! I’m a noob. lol!

( )Nate December 18th
This site is finally here! Awesome, useful stuff.
( )Zeljko December 18th
Very Useful! Thanks!
( )gk December 18th

( )robin winter December 19th
very good presentation…i like how its in real time with boo-boo’s it like sitting over your shoulder. KEEP IT UP AND ILL BE BACK!
( )Bryan Grajales December 19th
Ummm another question…
How come AETUTS doesn’t Have the files “for downloading”
as I know… all the tuts sites have an Options to download the files…
???? Wut Happen????
( )Mark Spencer December 19th
Outstanding.
( )chasly December 20th
Here’s my result Enjoy it
:
http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=Hgb-fw5LcdA
( )Josh December 20th
great to see an after effects tutorial website!! this is exciting.
my only criticism would be that the movies are embedded. i really think you guys should provide a .mov file to be able to download the movie as an optional link. much like those photoshop guys do.
a download link would be awesome
( )al December 20th
congtatulation guy
( )Josh Drake December 20th
Really cool effect! However, I really think that you guys shouldn’t use shareware software in your tutorials. It makes is worthless to us people who don’t have the software or the funds to buy it.
( )Lloyd Alvarez December 21st
>>the vid doesnt have a pause button<<
Just click anywhere in the video window to pause the video. Once the video is paused you can grab the pink playhead with the time on it and scrub backwards or forwards. Hope that helps for following the tutorials.
( )illd December 21st
Great Tutorial! Nice use of the Trapcode stuff never thought of it in that way
( )Thanks a lot.
mini W December 22nd
it seems that ‘View Full-screen’ button does not work,it that my own problem?
( )Ale December 23rd
Hint: you should put on the article, how long the video takes, or how much time it will consume to do this tut
just an advice

( )You can find mine here:

Things I did more: Blurry fade in, constantly changing colors, no black between the final ‘logo’ and the form, logo shines too for xtra drama!
Carter March 12th
Where did you get all the sound effects i’ve been searching

Darren January 12th
Great site, looking forward to more tutorials. Really wish you had a pause button though on the videos so I can pause and go back and forth with my own project as I follow along!
( )Lloyd Alvarez January 12th
@Daniel – You can download a fully functioning demo version (the demo version watermarks it with a thin X) so you can fully follow along. If you plan on doing any serious work with AE then having and knowing the trapcode plugins is an absolute must.
@Darren – Just click anywhere on the video to pause it. Click again to get it playing again.
( )TheMonster January 14th
Anyone know the name of the song? And is there any possibility to dl this project?
( )abdullah January 14th
Great, thanks pro
( )Dmitri January 19th
how do you install the trapcode form once u have it?
( )Al Shepard January 20th
We’ll, I was following this step by step and just couldn’t bear to stop watching it, kinda like a good book. You know, when it’s 3 a.m. and your struggling to keep your eyes open but you keep telling yourself “one more chapter, just one more…”
That’s kinda what I’ve been doing with this, always pushing one more step further, that is, until I came to 14:07 into the video. Once I hit 14:07 the progress bar (our little gray friend who shows us how much has been loaded) shoots to the end and the video freezes and won’t buffer anymore.
So here I am, stuck at 14:07, dieing to complete this tutorial but sadly I can not. If there is anyway help can be given me, I’d greatly appreciate it.
But otherwise, awesome tutorial from what I saw. Very informative and useful. You’re a excellent teacher Lloyd!
( )Jim January 21st
I like the use of the Trapcode plug-in even if it IS the only one I don’t have. But I would like to say, Feel free to EDIT your tutorials. We really don’t need to see the project actually rendering. I send enough time doing that on my own time.
Keep it up!
( )Mike January 23rd

( )Joe March 9th
Go to >window>effects & presets>type ramp in the effects & presets text window (press Ctrl+5 to reveal this window).
( )Alternatively you can go to effects>generate>ramp. If it’s not there something is wrong with your AE, reinstall.
xapeGa March 10th

I really love this tutorial and effect.
My question is can I do this effect with an image as well? I’ve seen a couple of tutorials using Layer Map with text but I haven’t seen any example that uses Layer Map with a non-text map.
Your answer will help me a lot.
Thank you!
( )Jason June 30th
Thanks so much for these form tutorials, its such a rare thing to find info on. They have all been very helpful.
( )Edward July 14th
Awesome!
( )Birgit July 29th
great job
a question, how did you do this shiny thing ?
I tried with trapcode shine but it is not like yours
thanks for answering
( )arlington cruz August 19th
LLoyd I have a problem with the little bump as you truck out the camera. I saw you correcting this same problem on the graph editor tweaking the curves,I am trying to keep the camera speed constant, while Keeping the camera path curvy (smooth), But don’t know how to tweak it the way you did on the curve graph editor. Sometimes we get awkward unwanted speed ups on the tweening when we set more than 2 keyframes.
I watched tutorials on keyframe interpolation and tried making speed linear (which is supposed to make speed the same) and spacial interpolation to Bezier. But still get that problem. How do we keep speed constant speed when we animate a more complex camera path?
( )braden just August 20th
