Yeah, its a combination of a write on effect, animated or filmed ink spills and using the paint tools to create the drips.
check this one, a step by step tut on ink bleeding effect in after effects (like gnarls music video), using pretty much the same techniqe

Me too, can’t DL your Tuts. I’m using Firefox, but when i Click the link it just open and play. There’s no DL button.
You need to Right-Click on the word DOWNLOAD and choose Save-As and you can then save the movie to your hard drive
Good tutorial….But you should have given credit to Brian Maffitt of Total Training who came up with this exact tutorial several years ago with After Effects 6.5

How did you create that BUMP? I can’t seem to find out! Anyone know? Help!
The bump was simply a solid, then masked into a circle, then I added a blur and cranked up the value quite a bit…. nothing special.
Im unsure of how to mask the solid into a circle
Ok so im completely stuck on how to make this bump. I was ok till that point but now I have no clue. Would be helpful if you could explain these things as it pretty much makes these tuts impossible for beginners to use if you dont
