  8. James says:

  9. Naveen says:

Nice Tut! Shift drag was a cool tip as well!

  10. Kevin Richards says:

    good job.
seems very close to Harry J Frank’s “Old School Special Presentation” AE project download.

    • Harry says:

It’s like the Old School Presentation download and the retro tutorial of mine had a baby and Nick raised it feeding it Chicago dogs during the 80s. Num num.

      Good stuff, though.

  14. Studiox says:

Nice! Tut easy to follow and the end Effect was the same.
    Well done!

  15. Nightfirecat says:

Wow! Extremely cool. I got a few ideas just by seeing that Vegas effect that I’ll have to try out, but this goes over some very good techniques, and is extremely flexible.

  16. Nicolas says:

Why don’t you post the proejcts files ?

    • because that would just be lazy. I know it says “spoon fed motion graphics” but c’mon… you wouldn’t learn and appreciate stuff if project files were handed on a plate!

Watch it, follow it, and take it as inspiration and a way of extending you knowledge of even the simple AFX standard plug-ins.

I thought this TUT was one of the best one’s posted here – by far it’s not the most complex, or extravagant, but just explained very well by a great tutor, great end result and all together usefull tips and tricks for workflow techniques which even I (a 6 year AFX user) found very very handy.

Cheers Nick, i allways like your tuts and you’ve got a great range of them. Hopfully we’ll get another one soon. I’m working on the Hannah Barbera one as we speak just for a laugh. lol

Hey Nick, this is great – you really are a great teacher!
This is perfect in terms of the level of difficulty — i’ve been following you for a while on your blog, it’ll be great if you continue to record these tutorials!

  20. Diego SA says:

  21. ME says:

Harry J Frank did this better, you can find it over at graymachine.com/v3

  22. Josh says:

NICK! you are the bomb. keep the tuts comin! thanks for all your help!

  23. Mike says:

Amazing result! and I like see your face in the tutorial is more closely the tutorial. The tricks like Fast Blur, Glow on an Adjustment Layer is very usefull.

    Thanks

  24. isra says:

    niceeeeeeeeeee

  25. Bezajo says:

    It is nice.

But why does it take sooooo long to download, even though i have the fastest broadband in the marked.
This seems to be true for all the tutorials in this site unlike the tutorials in “videocopilot” website.

You must be doing something wrong or capturing in wrong format.

    Keep on the good work

    • partelo says:

i agree. it is going to take me 3+ hours to download the video… and it wont play on my machine without chugging and stopping constantly. annoying.

    • Lloyd says:

We just added the option to download the tutorials (Right-Click and Save As on the Download Link). Now you can download it to your local machine and scrub through it without having to download it every time.

  26. VertigoSFX says:

Haha cool, I like this one a lot.

  27. FEDFiLM says:

Hey can anyone help me???? i exported a comp made form this tutorial, and everyone of the four times ive tried, it hasnt exported my comp, but instead a screen capture, as in, i can see my whole screen along with the render bar in after effects as it renders, my cursor moving around doing other things, and then my screen saver, but broken up to fit the length of the comp. whats going on???

    any help guys?

  28. Alistair says:

    Hey Nick,

Thanks for this amazing tutorial, I followed along and right now i’m rendering the effect. This was the first tutorial I did in After Effects and your was great as it didn’t require any additional plugins etc.

When you did the pre-comp early on in the tute though it was a little confusing (you later explained how to do this) but Google was the saviour before that.

Many thanks again and great contribution. Very nice tute.

  29. hugo castro says:

    Thanks!

  32. Nikola says:

    Eeeextraordinary….

  33. partelo says:

I wish that there was an option on this site to see the tutorial through screenshots, as opposed to having to wait an hour or so to download the tutorial. for some reason i can never see the videos on this site smoothly. Sometimes I dont want to see every single step, just scroll thorough the lesson and get the highlights. Am i alone?

    • Lloyd says:

  41. Fran says:

Thanks for the great tutorial Nick. I did it! It looks sweet!

  42. john says:

So good, but you gotta stop throwing the cursor all over the screen while you talk. It makes me nervous

  43. K S Busam says:

    It’s Very very nice

  44. Oostblok says:

    very nice work
thanks alot u really helped me :D

  45. Owen Thomas says:

    thanks Nick!

I like how you briefly explain some short-cuts and how to navigate the menus along the way like the key. I never knew you could go full screen on menus. So much easier to edit key frame graphs!!!

  46. Khoren Mirzakhanian says:

    Great Tut Nick!

Helped a lot. by the time the tutorial was done, I had my very own different version finished.

    Keep em coming!
