Final Product What You'll Be Creating

Today we will be using Trapcode 3d Stroke to create an animated line which we can use as a custom particle in Trapcode Particular to create the material of our text. Using Cell Pattern and the rarely used Vegas plug-in, I show you how to create an impressive digital looking background. This effect is extremely easy to modify so there are endless options for a final result.

Very cool tutorial. It’s also nice to see creative use of old plugins like cell pattern and vegas.
Just a question. Couldn’t I use shapes or the built in stroke of AE instead of Trapcode 3D Stroke?

Definitely! Your by no means limited to using trapcode for that specific effect. Thanks for watching!

PLEASE ! MAKE THE TUTORIAL ON 720 p ! Im french and i dont understand all of america/english words ! the quality sucks and i can’t do my project :(

Nice tutorial but I don’t know why so many tutorials push pricy 3rd party stuff (especially trapcode) when you can do the same stuff with the stock software.

    • Wes

Because sometimes the native AE tools don’t offer as much flexibility as the pricy 3rd party stuff. If a client came to you and wanted a specific effect like particle trails or something of that nature. Which plugin would you use? Trapcode Particular or CC Particle World? (remember Cycore Effects weren’t always bundled with After Effects. In fact it was a 3rd party plugin itself up until a few years ago. Also, it’s a variant of BorisFX Final Effects Complete collection). Both have their strengths and weaknesses but in a time sensitive deadline driven project with the budget that would allow it, I would go with a 3rd party option than trying to use multiple expressions and multiple Ram intensive filters with CC particle world to achieve something Particular can do without as much hassle. Now, you could also purchase a template to save yourself the hassle if you don’t know how to pull that off but there is no guarantee you or your client would be willing to spend the money to get one. So overall, the whole point of the author showing you what you can do if you invest some money into some 3rd party plugins is that your creative bounds can be expanded to new horizons. At the end of the day, the choice is completely up to you.

awesome man, thank you , trapcode rules forever

  • Ubiq

Perfect presentation: you come across as relaxed, intelligent, without fuss, and you’re not trying to be funny or anything (which usually turns out lame). A real pleasure to follow your tutorial, thanks!

I really did like your effect. Specially the interesting background. Well as i didn’t have 3D stroke installed I tried the normal stroke(AE). But when I imported the custom particle into particular, i noticed ther was no transparency present.
So i dropped the idea of the logo reveal but came up with something cool:-

    Matrix Ecomm 2012 Intro
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8el4N8lOFRc

This was an intro i had to make for my school’s annual inter-school Tech + Economics Symposium.
If you go to (1:07) you would notice I used this background technique you showed along with RedGiants Text Anarchy’s Set of Plugins to make a futuristic message.

Is there any other way i can achieve this with built in AE stroke and retain transparency in the custom particle?

Ae Tuts+ has immensely helped me to learn the software’s of my choice.

Does Anybody know why my rotation for X and Y would be grayed out? My particle layer is 3D, I can’t figure it out.
