This tutorial will teach you how to recreate the “My Paper Mind” effect done by Javan Ivey, but with the environment in mind, Nicolas has come up with a way to save some paper (as well as about 3 days worth of paper cuts!) It is all done in After Effects without any third party plug-ins. Enjoy!

Hair pulling over :o ) … I have figured out where I was going wrong so please disregard my previous comment.

Problem 1) was solved because I had missed re-enabling the viability to the stage after adding the paper texture.

Problem 2) was simply incorrect setting of the time remapping.

    Thanks anyway folks x

      Hey Kate,
Umm the original color should stay the same, you can add effects >generate> color correction to tweak it back to what you want if you don’t like it after importing (make sure it is RGB)

As for the go into tunnel, it is so easy, you add what ever basic animation you want to the stage composition (where the null object is) and it multiplies like the first layer did all by itself (thanks to the expressions – as in coding he made us write.)

      Hope that helped. :D
PS best way is to follow him one step/second at a time.

I have a project for school, a channel bumper. I did something i believed was fun and engaging .. but after the professor through around some comments about how drifty it was due to my basic skills in “motion tweening” .. i wanted to push the envelope far and fast. Thank YOU SO MUCH for this. It was fun and inspiring and now i get it! I get what motion graphics needs to do. I honestly wished you continued with the light tower and the rest of it. Don’t worry about the length when the quality is so far ahead! Please continue to inspire us. I will always be a fan.

I have a timeline duration question in regards to this project.

I followed the tutorial exactly just make sure I got everything right, including the exact timeline duration. But now that I got it working exactly the way it does in the video, I wanted the movie to be longer.

So I went into the comp settings for all three comps (stage, paper_stage, main_paper [like in the example]) and changed the duration from 0:00:05:00 to 0:00:30:00, (I’m pretty sure in the video he had the comps set to 0:00:05:00, correct me if I’m wrong). Then I extended each instance in the timeline to extend to 0:00:30:00

So when I went to go and test it. That caused all the animation I was putting into the “stage” comp to pause at 0:00:05:00 in “main_paper.”

Which seems weird since I changed the durations in all three comps…

Did I forget to change the duration somewhere else?
What else could I be doing wrong?

    Anybody have any ideas?
