edk April 6th
Very cool, I’ve always wanted to do that sort of reflections. You’ve done it brilliantly, fantastic work!
( )Bajzito April 6th
Very nice, going to try this out right now
( )Rafi April 6th
thats how i like it: fast and straight forward!
( )Sean April 6th
Thanks to Andrew Kramer there is a simpler way to do reflections….
http://www.videocopilot.net/presets/quick_3d_reflections/
Just apply the preset and move on!
One other thing…Marcus…I love the tuts man, but the screencast is not nearly as clear in full screen as many of the others around here. Since you are a regular contributor (and a great one, at that), I’d love to see you get a better screencast set up.
( )Markus Gustafsson April 6th
Yeah I know, I record everything in 1280×720, I don’t know why they get so grungy. Try downloading the tutorial and you will get it in high resolution.
( )Sean April 6th
Markus…you are completely correct! Downloading the tutorial give a crystal clear picture! Thanks again and keep up the great tuts!
Lloyd April 6th
Regarding using the quick_3D_reflections preset, just remember this old chinese saying: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”
( )Sean April 6th
Very good point Lloyd. Markus’s method is a very good one. But we have presets, scripts and expressions for reasons…..don’t we?
John April 7th
Give a man a fish… well there is the preset but he also has a tutorial on creating the reflections and even with displacement:

What is the song, it’s very cool…
( )Markus Gustafsson April 6th
Thx! The song is: Teddybears sthlm – Automatic Lover
( )Jayblo April 6th
Cool tutorial, May I suggest using an expression from Dan Ebbert
So that we wont need to animate the opacity of those layer not facing the camera
Thanks
( )Carl April 6th

Clean and simple. Good work ^_^
( )B April 7th
Very USEFULL and professional making good use of after effects unlike alot of other tutorials out there which just use filter effects:)
( )Phil April 7th
Awesome Tutorial!
( )Really like the result!
Braden Keith April 7th
This is a very awesome effect! I love this style. However one constructive critiscim remark is:
( )I know your english isn’t all that well, but I found you very hard to follow because you spoke very softly. Please speak up a little bit to compensate for the lack of perfect english. Also some knowledge was “assumed” usually I’m able to just play the audio and click while the person is saying what they’re clicking, with you I kept having to rewind to see what you clicked because I didn’t hear any instructions. And rewinding on Vimeo is a pain sometimes. haha. But thanks for sharing any way, I hope you have some more tutorials soon and that you keep my suggestions in mind! Thanks.
Sean April 7th
One question…now that I’ve gotten around to it….
Is this in CS4? I can’t separate the dimension of the camera positon in CS3. Must be a CS4 thing, I’m assuming…
( )Markus Gustafsson April 7th
Yeah, I’m using CS4, if you want to separate the XYZ dimension in CS3, you could use the effect “separate XYZ Position”
( )Brako April 29th
what layer do you put that on?
Ralf June 23rd
Same problem here. Where to put that “Separate XYZ Position”. It doesn’t work on Camera.
kris April 9th
Great tut! Bad profile pic! Who uses a picture of themself eating food? Why?
lol sorry it just seems silly.
( )Chad Fullerton April 10th
Hi Markus! FANTASTIC tutorial, it’s something I’ve been wanting to do for my portfolio for a long time.
Question: I notice that in the tutorial when you first previewed it with the animated text, that the camera animation looked a bit choppy… but then when you previewed the final thing there was some sort of ‘blur’ effect happening when the camera flies from the top corner to the bottom, and when the site spins around. I don’t remember seeing you adding that motion blur effect in the tutorial… how did you do it?
THANKS!
( )Marcos April 20th
Hi Chad!, Markus checked the motion blur switches for the layers and also checked the motion blur toggle in the timeline (moving ball with trails icon)
( )Jeremy C April 10th
Awesome tutorial, didn’t run into any problems.
Just wondering where you got the music for it, I’ve spent ages looking for some royalty free music for my presentation!
( )Mossawir Ahmed July 22nd
you can compose your own music .. using FL STUDIO
( )Kwaa April 11th
This is a amazing Tutorial, very nice!
But i want to change the image when i turn my site around. I mean, when the cammera rotates around the site, i want the backside to be another screenshot (code view). When i dubblicate the layer and replace on of the images, it wont work, cus then both will be in code view..
Maybe not the best explanation.. If anyone could explain how i do it, i would be very very gratefull!
( )Chris April 17th
Yes something like this would be good. If we knew how to do this we could keep layering up different images.
( )Thijs Hartman June 7th
it is very easy to do.
Just take another screenshot of a diffrent site page or something. And just set it on the same position as your first screen shot then when you turn when you on 90% of your turn then you only this | then you set your first screen shot off and your second screen shot on so when you turn to 180% you see your other screen shot.
Any questions just ask
-Thijs Hartman
Franky April 12th
Awesome, I want to do this for my entire portfolio!
( )Dean April 14th

( )This will be great for a like tour of a website.

( )Matt April 18th
Excellent tutorial, great work!
( )slb April 18th
merci pour ce tuto, vraiment terrible !!!
( )oni April 21st
Any chance you could slow down these tutorials – moving way too fast that I’m having to keep pausing and resuming.
Are you using keyboard shortcuts? Because I don’t get the same kind of mouse functionality as you do in different parts of the tutorial
For example, I’m completely stuck on how to manipulate the camera movement despite following your tutorial exactly.
Any help would be apprecaited.
( )Sehel April 28th
I would like to thank you.
First of all for this beautifull and usefull website.
And also for this tutorial that helped me to learn how to use AE and let me design my own composition.
Check this out : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UesjMn7Hv4I
( )Markus Gustafsson April 28th
That looks great! I think it’s a great example how you can use this tutorial
( )Sal April 28th
Great tutorial!
I have a tiny question and it may seem like a dumb one but how did you convert a htm file (your snap shot of the aetuts homepage) to a jpg file.
I’m sure the answer is as obvious as the air we breathe but I can’t figure it out.
( )Markus Gustafsson April 28th
I took a print screen of aetuts, pasted it in photoshop and cut out all the parts I don’t want in the final picture
( )Sal April 28th
Thank you, Markus. Clever!
And here I was scrambling through the internet for free htm to jpg converters.
LOL…explains why you’re giving the tutorial and I’m askingthe dumb questions.
Thanks again
( )oni May 2nd
Any chance of getting the AE source files for this?
( )Lollipop May 7th

( )Matt Litherland May 19th
Hi i’ve never used After Effects before but im extremely confident in Illustrator and Photoshop so i know my way around the adobe software.
I’ve got to the aprt where u start adding keyframes, erm 8:39 into the tutorial. And for some reason i cannot add Keyframes, as there appears to be no timeline within my timeline ?
( )pablo May 31st
Awesome! Just gave me an apporach to a clients ad! Thanks!
( )chriz June 1st
heres my result
( )sheila June 4th
Hi, and thanks. I have a question. After making the tech design using the brush in Photoshop, how do you do all the settings and save the file so it opens in AE with no background????
( )Thijs Hartman June 7th
Open in photoshop a new file and then you can choose white background your own background and transparant bachground choose transparant.

Hello Markus,
I’m a 14 years old kid out the Netherlands. I saw the tutorial on AE-Tuts of the Website demo.
I use the tutorial to make this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eS1kcGveDNw
Then i saw the website demo you made for HUB on ninjaeffects.com.
I really really liked that one.
Can you give me maybe some tips and tell me maybe how you did that thing whit your mouse that your mouse is also 3D.
And whit which cam you made this?
Really Really Thanks
I’m a big fan
-Thijs Hartman
( )Charmaine June 14th
I am a newbies, thanks, it is very informative.
( )mario ermitiko June 18th
the video stops at around 5 mins.
( )Chris June 19th
Thanks a lot!! It´s so nice to find something for free with this value at those times. Keep on going. YOU… ARE GREAT!
( )baokhangluu June 26th
I was expecting this to show ways time-based, interactive, or dynamic features of a website could be presented (Feel free to make a tutorial for that. Hint Hint Wink* Wink*). Alas it is not…BUT it would be appropriate when you really need to impress a client, unless they are the type of client who will question you as to why you are putting so much energy into presentation when you could be working on the website itself. I can see it being used on web apps, e-commerce, etc sites to show off and highlight features and content on their own pages. All in all it’s well done and slick. Very nice. KUDOS!
( )Gary July 26th
I can honestly say that your tutorial was amazing,if I can master all the tools I will end up with the site I have been trying to achieve for ages,I am overawed by it all,but I will get stuck in and then come back here with my result, thankyou once again.
( )Chris July 31st
Thanks for the fantastic tutorial. Although I dont have much experience of after effects I was able to follow the tutorial without any problems and use it as a basis for my new demo reel. Check out the final result here, just scroll down the homepage to the Demo Reel block:

( )Felipe Valladares October 25th
Hi Markus, I saw you video for SpellOfPlay – hub and I love the song, can you tell us what song is it? Please.
Thank you so much, and good tutorial.
( )Ahmad November 8th
that’s a very creative tut
i’m newbie in after effects and i walked through this tutorial, but i stopped at the minute 15:50 when he right-clicked the position of the camera to choose “separate dimension”… when i pressed right click i couldn’t find this option
first option in the menu was “Edit value…” and the second one was “Remove keyframe” and i couldn’t complete the video
so the question is how could i separate dimensions and why this option is not available ?
( )i’m working on after effects CS3
thanks
Imone January 15th
