    this tutorial kind of sucks….
you dont explain how to do things enough
after i get to the point where i need to cover the letters with the write on
you dont explain anything like how to make the path of the tool..
everytime i try make the path all it does is move the text around

  16. riky says:

    the name of the fonts???

    Nice Tutorial,

I have a question though. When im using the effect write on more than one time in the same word layer, lets say for starting at 2 different spots at the time, after doing all the tracing and at the moment of turning them to ¨reveal original image¨, they dissapear, it seems like if the effect can not be used more than one at the same time in each layer…
    Appreciate any info.

      Author

to do multiple “write-ons” I typically just precompose precompose precompose…. it becomes your best friend…

    • saradeva says:

when you mean precompose, precompose, precompose…..you mean split the words first, the precompose it????

      • saradeva says:

Man…look at you “a” in your final product??? how you do that precompose?
I mean there are 2 “write on” forming the letter “a”!
I understand when you say split the words into parts! But concerning the letter “a”, it shows that you split a letter? how you do that man?

Emm if you are keeping those particular techniques for yourself, just let me know i wont bother you about my questions!! :P :P

Anyway all your tuts are very helpful!

    • saradeva says:

i analyse your final product, correct me if am wrong! did you apply the write on 7times?

  22. AK says:

HI nice tut but is there some settings u used to create the outline text like that?…kinda new to after effect’s im going to try and used illustrator to make that and see how it goes :)

  23. AK says:

  24. eunice says:

  25. eunice says:

there’s an “x” mark that apppeared.. how do i take it off? thanks!

  26. Yimi says:

Hi, Adams, very thanks for the tut,
    I learn something,
butm what I saw at the preview
    IS NOT
what you show at the end of your Tutorial, why dont show us the true values
    to get that professional end?

You dont show how to add the sound, and the final camera movement…
    Anyway, thanks.

I wish take care to get another tutorial, but
    in a complete way!

  27. Linda says:

Thanks for the tutorial, I have a problem
when I reach the point of joining the XY position of the particle simulation for the purpose of writing … the dock or tie or whatever does not come out.
Not if it’s because the version I have installed is the portable or because I disabled an option … I NEED YOUR HELP.

  28. Stephen Curry says:

hate to be a stick in the mud but you really jumped around in this tutorial which made it hard to follow especially for noobs such as myself. I was hoping to see exactly how you created to promo effect….but by the end of the tutorial I was lost from all the jumping around and the smoke effect wasnt the same as in your promo.

additionally you showed how to do the intro effect at the end of the tutorial. I appreciate the work but you need to think about who your audience is going to be. :-(

  29. Dani says:

great tutorial….as always ;) super effect thx for showing =)

  30. Jquin3 says:

Hi, this was a great tutorial. really learned a lot from it. But I cant seem to get the final effect wispy smoke effect like in the preview. I tried all kind of settings in particular but my smoke always appear not wispy enough. Could anyone share the settings or a project file? Thank you.

  31. Artur says:

  32. Screenfunstar says:

    Hey, I have a question:
Whats the font name of this text???
i ask, bcz icant find it in my pc :(
i hope u give an answer quick!

  33. Friction says:

This new preview sucks. What format is it in?

  34. jimbucc says:

    Adam,
Overall a good tutorial. It shows a neat technique that I can see being very useful.
However the delivery is kind of all over the place. In the beginning you seem to have everything together but towards the end you are all over making corrections and fiddling with the control to get the right effect. I got confused with all of the changes and fixes and the speed at which you were making changes.

Please prepare your tutorial before your start recording – it makes it easier for us newbies to understand the technique used to create an effect.

    thanks.

  35. Jack Rose says:

Some please tell me whats the name of the font used at the beginning of the video, i cant find it

  36. Felix says:

    Aaaaah.
Very nice ffect and very useful.
But can you tell me why my text is everytime so pixelate? I guess that’s the word i’m searching for.
An answer would be awesome .
    Felix

  37. David says:

    nice post
    thanks :)

  38. iggy says:

    hi everyone,

I just have a stupid question..I’m a beginner with AE. When I create a new composition, the timeline is not in seconds (s), but I think in frames (there is 9f for example)..How can I change it?? I’m using AE CS5..

    thanks

  39. BHarathi says:

hey iggy, i’m also a begginer lik u… jus do nd check wat i’m saying here… if i said is wrong pls dont mind me brother…
Go to composition> composition settings>in that duration H:MM:SS:NANOsecs.. try it…..

  40. deema says:

can i do it with an image ? or the effect only works with text

  41. juan camilo says:

the part that links the movement in the tutorial, I get the box to attach to the movement of the writing how do I link the two movements in cs5.5?

  42. Mike says:

If anyone wants to know, you can keyframe your write-on brush positions far apart and have a continuous line if you set your brush spacing to 0, similar to brushes in photoshop.

  43. Tonino says:

Can you write me the number of “particles/sec”, “Velocity”, “Life [sec]“, “size”, etc. that you use in your video?? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F66hzMbkyDw&feature=player_embedded)
