  4. Joe says:

The particle effects don’t seem too advanced so I would imagine this can easily be done in CC Particle World?

  5. Sawang says:

    Nice Tutorial

  9. Harmen says:

It’s not that dreamy xD, but it’s ok.
It would be better when you have the feeling you’re flying slowly through the clouds and the camera is rotating.

  10. Adam says:

I’d been looking for some way to do this without the use of a 3d program. The render times that particle systems were giving me were stupidly large, so this is going to be a useful tutorial for sure. Good job!

  11. Billy says:

@Harmen….then why don’t you do that with yours?

  12. Carlos says:

    Awesome! Thanks so much man.

  13. Billy says:

@billy….then why don’t you do that with yours?

I’m pretty happy with the result! Nice tutorial for the most part…there were a few unnecessary steps(in my mind, at least) that I cut out. Cool effect!

  28. john says:

I’m not getting a folder with cloud layers when import my psd file in after effects

  29. wendel says:

    me too

    • Author

All the layers are separated in the psd file and imported as a composition?

      • wendel says:

        Thank you for replying =)

Ive put every cloud in a seperate layer an then saved the photoshop file.
Then i imported the psd file as a composition and draged it down. But when i click on the psd file it seems to be only 1 file without layers.

does it matter wich version AE im using?

  30. Joost says:

    Wow. Wow. Wow.

  31. Kay says:

    Awsome tutorial man

  32. Carl says:

Thanks for the tutorial! I’ve never used AE before, but after this I feel like being able to do a lot just with what I learned from this.

    Takk. ;)

  33. Carl says:

And if I may doublepost here, I wish to get a tiny input on my iteration of this tutorial.

    http://rioteer.net/Comp_1.mp4

I find that I am a lot more intrigued by effects-rendering after becoming a + member. Totally worth the money.

    • I think you did a great job, my only comment would be that you could ease out the highlight flare that leaves from the title off the top of the screen, right now it totally gives away that you are doing a digital effect if that makes any sense.

  34. pranav trivedi says:

    hey, nice tutorial,
but i am stuck….can anyone help?

i am done till the photoshop part but after i bring the psd file in AE and then selecting the custom particle thing in particular my particles are not visible…i have to toggle the transparancy to see the clouds cuz they are all black….but in photoshop they are grey in color…

    help!!

  35. RAVI says:

    ME TOO!

    I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM,

WHEN I IMPORT THE .PSD FILE IT DOESN’T SHOW ANY LAYERS,

    CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE??

    THANKS :D

  36. Guilherme says:

    Muito bom (amazing)

  37. help! says:

I don’t have the trapcode particular preset can anyone help me get it? and how to install in properly?

  38. Marco says:

    Hello,

this might be a totally stupid and silly question but I’m a novice with AE, so what are you/is he exactly doing with the Background-layer? Do you hide it, delete it, or are you doing something completely different?

  39. Love all your Tuts Keep it up. God Bless

  40. Markive says:

    @Markus Gustafsson,

    Great tutorial, very informative..

Please mention what keyboard shortcuts you use as you go along as I am a complete newbie it makes it hard to follow along..

  44. nathan says:

Hey I love how the tutorial is going so far for me. I have just hit a bump in the road. When I try to change my particle type to “custom” I do not have the choice. I don’t have my trapcode particular registered, could that be the problem? I need help please!

    • Lydia Faban says:

hey did you manage to work this out?
i have the same problem.. there isnt a custom setting on the particle type setting.

  45. One of the most useful tutorials I have seen.

This is the best way to create clouds in AE in my opinion.

I used this technique heavily for a 3D animation, and it got us second place for the upcoming Autodesk 2009 Animation competition.

To see how I used the clouds, check out my website: http://www.michaelwentworth-bell.com and navigate to the 3D section, the animation is called ‘Rex Belfast: Head In The Clouds”

Thanks a bunch for this tutorial Markus

  46. zhang yu says:

    great!! nice!!

  47. jimi says:

Sorry, what are you exactly doing with the Background-layer? When I delete it the clouds layers are not visible …. HELP !
