Markus is back to show us how to use a particle generator to create 3D clouds and use them as a transitional device to reveal a logo.

One of the most useful tutorials I have seen.

This is the best way to create clouds in AE in my opinion.

I used this technique heavily for a 3D animation, and it got us second place for the upcoming Autodesk 2009 Animation competition.

To see how I used the clouds, check out my website: http://www.michaelwentworth-bell.com and navigate to the 3D section, the animation is called ‘Rex Belfast: Head In The Clouds”

Thanks a bunch for this tutorial Markus

Sorry, what are you exactly doing with the Background-layer? When I delete it the clouds layers are not visible …. HELP !

  • Confused?

Question, for some reason, the videos I watch on this site keep cutting off at certain times, and I can never finish a video or its download.
Do I have to suscribe the $9 a month to watch the full video? (This has happened on 2 different computers)

To people that don’t know how to use photoshop:

Just download the brush set from devianart.

Then go to photoshop and create a file at 500 X 500 pixel.

    create 10 new layers.

Click on brush (or hit B on your keyboard) then right click on an empty space in your work field,
Go click on that little arrow in the upper right corner. There click on load brushes and search for your brush set you just downloaded. They will appear at the lower bottom in the menu.

Then create the different clouds on the 10 layers you created.

After your done with that save the photoshop file and import it to AE.

What does he do with the background layer?
I find if I delete it then the Adjust. Layer with the Curves on it later on does nothing. I am not entirely new to AE but I can’t for the life of me figure out what he does.
    Help?

    Hello Markus,

Great tutorial! I managed to create my own but only with the red X… I was wondering, could this be done without trapcode particular? If so how would you do it?

  • http://www.mishes.com Mishes

Great tutorial!, it didn’t work in After Effects CS.5.5 though, it does not have the Trapcode installed and when I downloaded it from the official site, the Mac version of it was corrupted.
