Final Product What You'll Be Creating

This entry is part 1 of 30 in the series Hollywood Movie Titles

Continuing our Aetuts+ Hollywood Movie Title Series, today’s tutorial will explain how to make the “Inception” flying logo style, using Cinema 4D 11.5 and After Effects. In Cinema, we’ll be modeling a maze logo, then using Mograph module (Cinema 4D 11.5 v.), we add the buildings inside of the labyrinth scene. We’ll follow in After Effects putting together the final composition.

Hey these tutorials are absolutley amazing in every sense, but the syntetic voice is soo annyoing and harsh to listen to over time, could you somehow please use your own voice, or find an alternative solution :) Would be greatly appreciated, in addition to improving the quality of your tutorials :D

      • When I do all the steps you tell me to do in the video, my 1 doesnt look like yours, It shows the outline in 3D when i add the Extrude, can you tell me what i’m doing wrong or if it’s a problem with the file, i’m making the exact thing from scratch with the file you gave me.

Too fast animation and too many reflections. And on 9-th second I see a clearly visible transition.
Overall is nice, but little bit unfinished….

  16. Gaby says:

Too bad I don’t have a 3d program right now, but I can’t wait to see the tehnique on v2.

  17. Antwan says:

I know its hard to make the final result in the tutorial close to the actual preview that you submitted for review, but damn it THE WHOLE CITY PART is missing and thats what I wanted to see!

  18. Cyril Kotecký says:

I love this tutorial, very good result and the music is a nice touch. However there is one thing I have to criticise. This is one of those tutorials that tells you what buttons to push but doesn’t explain what they do, and thus mostly reminds me of school :D

  19. Dora says:

    happy new year~

  20. Evangelos says:

Nice, but it could be done completely in AE only !!! (buildings are really easy to construct with 3d layers and some good textures)

    • Billy says:

Hardly. You could do something similar. It would look terrible in comparision. There is NO comparison between a 2.5D model created in after effects and a true 3D models in C4D or 3ds Max….NONE. Notice how all the buildings appear to be different. Notice that there are buildings with spires and buildings with circular features. You can’t do THAT in after effects.

To do this piece any justice at all you have to use a 3D program.

  21. chris says:

How did you ever figure this out?? Amazing – when I saw the original I tried to guess how one could pull that off and was stumped…very impressive as are all your tuts! Many thanks.

  22. Billy says:

Overall this is very good. However, my only complaint would be that in the first part when you are using the aetuts logo, the ENTIRE letter should be comprised of buildings just as the WB, in the Warner Bros. logo, was in the actual trailer.

  23. M.Puvan says:

Hi antonio, this is my work…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdX2_YGSKmM
Well, i think u could figure out why there`s a little building and the lightings are not so good, due to the memory, i couldnt add a lot…but i still keep the file where it has a complete maze…might render it when i buy a new computer…i`m still a beginner by the way….despite the fact i need improve more…thanks for ur tutorial by the way…and really had a very hard time to use adobe illustrator lolz..
    Cheers,
    M.Puvan

  24. Chris Slowik says:

Antonio, any tips on how to get tutorial pitches approved?

I spent a lot of time making an incredibly thorough video tutorial on the Faster title, including source files for c4d and after effects, and I don’t get a response when I submit a pitch.

I notice you have a bunch of these, so I was wondering if there’s something I’m missing..

  25. Murrhound says:

Ok so we have to pay for have the stuff to make this. If I wanted to do that why wouldnt I just pay some one else to make the whole thing for me. I dont mean to complain but I would have loved to have learned how the vector work was done.

I’m new to all of this. Where can you buy Cinema4? I would love to know that program.

  29. thijs says:

IS it possible to use your own text? because i got premium special for this tutorial but can i use me own text in it? To change inception so something else?

    • Staff

Absolutely, you just have to go back to the illustrator file that is used and change the path to spell out what you want it to.

    • Author

Ok, open the file in adobe illustrator and add your logo.
Do not forget the most important thing!!
Cut trails on your new logo, and import everything on Cinema 4d.
Arrange the buildings on trails of your new logo with MoGraph.
Finally with Boole tool and the new shape of the logo, you can make a hole on the maze.

      Good Fun! ;)

  30. Kyle says:

Hello, thanks for the tutorial! However, how did you select the maze paths in the shape of the text?

Sorry, I’m not exactly proficient in Adobe Illustrator.

  31. tvandang says:

You are the best!!! Thanks for this wonderful tutorial.
