Final Product What You'll Be Creating

Today we’re going to be looking at the animation style of movie “Dredd”. At the end of this tutorial, you can learn how to composite and animate your own title with this cool style with the use of the fantastic Video Copilot Element 3d plug-in, all inside After Effects, with a little help from Cinema 4d. The actual example of the Dredd movie title is just for training purposes and is not to be used in a final project without permission from the original creators.

        But in any case, in my opinion element 3d must work with the materials pro shaders for best result.

    It’s not a good idea to use Element 3D in such tutorials,because not everybody has that plug in yet.Antonio please don not use this plug in in future tutorials!It was much better when you were using Cinema 4D and After Effects only! Thanks

      Hey Ramzes,
      I think that Element 3d will be able to do many things of Cinema. This is a real revolution on After Effects, the purpose of the tutorials is to give all the information for implementation. Do not worry, Cinema will be present when it is necessary for the tutorial.

Yes I agree with you,maybe in some cases it’s good to use Element 3D.Antonio you are great teacher, and I always admire you as a great teacher, you teaching us create awsome staff, which is hard to find in internet for free.Therefore,it would be great if you will be able to show us technics which will make us think and fight with our mind,that way we will learn something, we will not learn softwares if we will use third party plug ins all the time.We have to create by ourselves, by hands, that way we will learn.That’s why I am asking you to keep kind of old style of teaching, I should say. Sorry If I am wrong,but I do respect you as a great teacher and thank you that you share your knowledge with us.

    While i think the color composition is nice in this tutorial i think overall the final product i s actually pretty weak :-s no real animation involved. Judging by some of the comments at least some people are getting something out of it so i guess that what counts mainly :-)

      Dear Simon, if you have any doubts about this animation, you can always send an email of complaint to “Lionsgate” ;)
      I simply recreated the sequence of the original trailer, anyway, as I said in the tutorial is can apply materials and lighting, and sequence animation that you like.
      Re-create your own custom version, and post your link to understand what you mean pretty weak impact.

        The bulk of your tutorials are very good, its just a shame you chose something so boring and simple here.

    Hey Antonio, I’d really like to Thank You for doing a tutorial in Element 3D! I’ve been learning C4D, but of course it’s a pretty big program and taking time to learn, and I’ve been growing in my skills slowly. Element is truly revolutionary because it has you up and running in After Effects in less than a day.

    I’ve been able to adapt some of your previous tutorials (which are great BTW) to using E3D and I think that more and more people (especially the ones that can not afford C4D) will be grateful and benefit greatly from your incorporation of the E3D plug-in to your tutorial series.

    So what if you don’t have element 3D. You still got AE right? This can be created with the built-in tools only as well.(and I am not speaking of the 3D extrusion options in CS6) Counting on plugins all the time prisons your imagination..

      This is not a limit, here is explained only a technique to obtain the style of Dredd logo. Of course you can use all the After Effects tools or other plugins and softwares….

    Somebody have a tutorial to make Dredd Digital Line (he talk about particular to make this effect) but i can’t imagine and I don’t know how to realize it.

    antonio you are really awesome ,the final product is very interesting especially the lighting effects,dont listen to those who say that its weak ,and please in next tuts try to use element 3d as much as you can,its awesome plugin and i need to learn it as much as i can,of course beside Cinema 4d ; )
