Final Product What You'll Be Creating

This entry is part 26 of 33 in the series Hollywood Movie Titles

In today’s tutorial we’ll be making the Sherlock Holmes 2 intro title animation. In the first part, we’ll be in Cinema 4d where we’ll create and animate the logo, lights and materials. From there, our second part will be spent in After Effects compositing all the elements we’ve created together and doing a final color correction pass to complete our project.

    Hi

Just a suggestion to the aetuts.com site people. Please change the name from “aetuts.com” to “cinema4dtuts.com”. Almost every secons tutorial on this site needs Cinema4D :p

      Hi Nisarg,

AEtuts from a year now, has posted many integrations tutorials with the best motion graphics softwares: Maya, 3d Studio Max, Nuke, Fusion and Apple Final Cut.
His name will remain “aetuts.com” it will be indispensable reference for many new and old users.

Finally I hope that this tutorial series hollywood movie title, in the specific “Sherlock Holmes 2″ has been to your liking.

      Cheers

I agree this series belongs in CG Tuts + or maybe they should just make a C4D Tuts + site.

      Back to AE please.

      Strut

    • IanJ

There is a unique pipeline between C4D and AE, that make sit completely appropriate for these tuts to appear here… no one is forcing anyone to watch these… if you dont use C4D just dont watch rather than complain about something you dont pay for… I for one am very grateful that Antonio shares his work here, i have learned a LOT emulating them!

      • http://www.brightblades.blogspot.in/p/gallery.html Sri Vignesh

        Hi IanJ
I agree with you, it’s correct and they also providing like that way only. I also learn’t from Antonio

        Thank you.

  • Vince

Hey, Antonio, would you ever consider doing a video just on texturing/materials and lights?

  • Steph

Question: I have C4D version 11.5 but when I try to open the .c4d files its telling me “Unknown file format”…

    any ideas as to why?

      Hi Steph,

      I used C4D v. 12.0.

      • Steph

Thanks Antonio for the quick reply,

Anyway you can save as an older version and email it to me so that I can use the project?

Hey Antionio as always a amazing tutorial. Its really awsome.

How I do that? I’m a beginner in Cinema 4d.
I would be really happy if you could help.

I honestly don’t mind these kinds of tuts on AETuts+, sure there’s CGTuts+ but it’s fine both ways. Both are very similar and work well together, plus for a lot of people, C4D is part of the AE workflow. I’d rather have C4D tutorials than no tutorials at all ;)

Great work once again Antonio, maybe you should try recording a tutorial with your voice one day!

  • gpg

    Great work !
how do I edit each letter in sequence? to change the example from “S” to “E”?

  • Proximacentaurius

STOP THIS CRAP ALREADY. Come with Something from your own creativity or imagination if you got any. Not something already done and viral. YOU’re neither teaching tips nor techniques, you are like “YOU HAVE TO INPUT HIS VALUE OR THE EFFECT WONT WORK.” And you really think your robotic crappy stupid ROBOT narration makes you unique? if you are dumb its alright.

      Hi Thomas
      the looks is good!
but if you add a light behind the logo, to illuminate the B side, hidden, behind,
the result will be more incisive. ;)

  • Genesis Effects

Great job! Love the lens flare, it always seems to make it look more professional.

    Hi
I learnt a lot. I did some similar in my youtube channel. Cheers and congratulations. I enjoyed a lot :)

Wow. I just came across this. I was the one who did this animated logo :-) The look itself originally came from the people who designed the posted for the first film. The letters on the poster appeared to be actual photographs of antique letterpress letters. I recreated them for 3D and animated them for both the first Sherlock Holmes and the sequel. I will have to download your tutorial and see how I could have done it more easily :-) I have no doubt I did not do it in the most expedited way! Thank you for taking the time to make this tutorial. I am honored!
