Even though you can achieve a similar looking effect with Fractal Noise, Displacement Map filters along with some effort, it is not that easy to make changes or get a realistic TV distortion effect. It’s not rocket science but somehow it looks artificial if its done with just distortion based on noise values. So I came across a wonderful Core Image filter written by
Memo.tv
which produces amazing & realistic Bad TV distortion. So, not wasting any time I ported the filter with slight changes to After Effects using
Effect Builder AE.
As it is a Core Image Filter, it is
Mac only. A Pixel Bender port is quite possible in the future so that Windows users aren’t left behind. Here is a sample video of the distortion produced by this plugin with its default settings. It automatically gives the ‘jumping’/vertical sync effect as seen in the video.

i downloaded this plugin a little while ago to compare it to the preset i have for the effect and i get a few “Demo” watermarks on my footage–is that how it should be? btw i sent same message to site i got it from-yours i think. just a heads up.

take your time and do it right, no? there is no rush, and we are appreciative of your time and effort. besides, you do quality work, and i am more than willing to wait. hell, i can still customize looks and get used to it in the meantime.

I get the error “Could’nt find main entry point for Bad TV.plugin”: What am I doing wrong? I just dragged the plugin to the plugin\effect directory in my AE CS4 folder.

Hi,
( )I dragged the effect into my after effects cs3 effects folder and when i click on it, it says couldnt find entry point and invalid filter. does it work for cs3?
