Matchmove A Bloody Severed Leg – Tutsplus Premium

In today’s tutorial we’ll matchmove the footage and use basic 3D geometry to create a severed leg, which can then be used as a matte to remove the original leg. The camera data can also be used to create a floor plane with some ground texture to clean up the original leg shadow. This plane will also be used to add ambient occlusion and fake blood. Be it a war zone or a zombie apocalypse, you never know when you might need to take off a leg. :)

Living in “Toytown” – Recreating The Tilt-Shift Effect in AE

Until recently this effect has been created in-camera using specialized lenses. In this tutorial, Richard Bird gives an overview of how the “Tilt-Shift Effect” can be quickly recreated in post-production without the use of 3rd party plug-ins by remapping the depth of field, use of simple color correction and altering the frame rate.

Make An Amazing Motion Reactant Flame – Tutsplus Premium

Using just a few video elements of torch flames, we composite a burning hand by using a series of null objects and expressions to drive a time lagged displacement effect to simulate fire burning from a moving source. We use the Puppet tool for the distortion and throw on some tracked lighting effects and a displacement map for the Heat. This principle can be used to add realistic, fluid motion to any tracked object.

How To Make A Wiggling Cord From Particles

How To Make A Wiggling Cord From Particles

This tutorial will walk through how I simulated a cord dragging behind a car. Through using Trapcode Particular with a wiggling emitter, we can create the illusion of a single cord moving. We’ll add shading, motion blur, and a shadow to add realism.

How To Create A Dr. Who Time And Space Vortex – Tutsplus Premium

In this tutorial we’ll be creating a Time & Space Vortex (like that used in Doctor Who) completely inside of After Effects. We will be using Trapcode Particular and Trapcode Shine to create the vortex. I will then teach a vital Expression that drives the camera and completes the Effect. Once you have mastered the effect, you can personalize it to create whatever Time-Tunnel you desire! All of Time and Space awaits you…

How To Track Footage That Is Out Of Focus

How To Track Footage That Is Out Of Focus

In this tutorial we are going to take a look at a simple, but interesting idea. The main point will be to show you how to work with footage that is out of focus making if difficult to track. After we track it we are going to attach the camera interface elements and fake some depth of field to create the illusion that they are floating in space and shift in and out of focus like the rest of the scene.

“Falcon Lady” Shot Walkthrough Using Nuke and AE

“Falcon Lady” Shot Walkthrough Using Nuke and AE

In this shot we’ll be creating a disintegration transition effect of a woman’s silhouette that falls into dust while morphing into a falcon flying away. We’re going to prepare our single plates needed for the shot in Nuke, as the whole production was based on a Nuke pipeline. However, The main particle transition effect will be in After Effects using Trapcode Particular and a CC Blur.

Regenerate Like A “Time Lord” From Dr. Who

Regenerate Like A “Time Lord” From Dr. Who

In this tutorial, we’ll be creating a regeneration effect, inspired by the Doctor Who TV show. I say inspired by, because it’s not screen-accurate, but we’ll be using AE’s built-in tools, alongside some stock footage, VCP’s Optical Flares and Trapcode Particular to pull off a pretty convincing regeneration.
