<p>Even though you can achieve a similar looking effect with Fractal Noise, Displacement Map filters along with some effort, it is not that easy to make changes or get a realistic TV distortion effect. It’s not rocket science but somehow it looks artificial if its done with just distortion based on noise values. So I came across a wonderful Core Image filter written by <a href="http://www.memo.tv/">Memo.tv</a></p>
<p>which produces amazing &#038; realistic Bad TV distortion. So, not wasting any time I ported the filter with slight changes to After Effects using <a href="http://www.pixlock.com/">Effect Builder AE</a>. </p>
<p>As it is a Core Image Filter, it is <strong>Mac only</strong>. A Pixel Bender port is quite possible in the future so that Windows users aren’t left behind. Here is a sample video of the distortion produced by this plugin with its default settings. It automatically gives the ‘jumping’/vertical sync effect as seen in the video.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The &#8220;Droste effect&#8221; derives from a Dutch chocolate maker that used an image of its box on the box recursively at smaller and smaller scales.</p>
<p><a href="http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/pixelbender/">Pixel Bender</a> is a new plugin technology introduced by Adobe in CS4 that works across all the adobe CS4 apps.  This means the same plugin can be used in After Effects, Photoshop and Flash.  And they are installed and used just like any other plugins.  You can get the Droste Effect plugin for free from <a href="http://www.subblue.com/projects/droste">subblue</a>.</p>
