You Spoke, We Listened

Starting in March, we’ll be switching over to Youtube for our Previews. We are still going to stick with Blip.tv for the main tutorials. I hope this makes your AEtuts+ experience more enjoyable… have a good day!

Thanks a lot! Just wondering how comes tutorials wont be published on Youtube?

    • http://skelliewag.org Skellie

YouTube has a 10 minute limit on videos, excluding most Aetuts+ tutorials.

      • Nils Westhoff

yeah but if you upload it in parts first and then eventually you get partnership! :D than you can upload longer vids! :D so just some investment kinda thing.

  • James

Thanks a lot for this, just wondering why will tutorials not be published on Youtube also?

  • http://www.videohive.net/user/mocarg Momcilo Stojkovic

    Finally!

  • http://deoclicianocgiportfolio.wordpress.com Deocliciano

If YouTUBE support HTML video, albeit Beta, why not switch entirely?

    • http://www.visualfxtuts.com Topher Welsh

Because a lot of the tutorials are over 10 minutes, and only special Partner accounts get privelages to upload more than that.

      • http://www.youtube.comusersimboy48 Adam Sklar

Apply for a partnership program? That allows you to mention how long the average video (Tutorial) is, and they will consider extending the maximum video time. They will probably have some advertisements, but you can have lots more customization on the YouTube page.

      • http://www.visualfxtuts.com Topher Welsh

Well, I have seem some partners that don’t have extended length videos, and some that do. I don’t know how it works, since I am not a partner, but a lot of the vloggers I watch have that privelage, but they also have around 500,000 views the first day they put up their video… :P

    • http://www.jtmrfilms.com James

I have a special account with YouTube that allows me to put up videos of unlimited length. I have some on there that are 30-40 minutes long and I don’t have to apply for anything. Its called a directors status. Look into that and see what you come up with.

  • Aegis Kleais

Never really had an issue with any of the videos you guys provided.

Love AETuts and all the contributors for making it what it is.

  • Dustin

Why would anyone have asked for this…. youtube is horrible. They HAVE made improvements lately and it should be getting better, but I wish the whole internet ran on Blip.tv (well vimeo really…). It is impossible to please everyone I suppose, haha.

    • Steven Seventeen

      check!

      • http://www.visualfxtuts.com Topher Welsh

The previews on Blip.TV are always really slow and choppy I’m glad that the previews are going to be on Youtube…

    • Max

I never saw anyone really asking specifically youtube – they just didn’t want blip.tv.

    • Dustin

I’ll take your word for it. Either way, great site and you guys are always working to improve it!

  • Daniel

    Thanks :)

  • http://www.aetraining.weebly.com David_97

YouTube isn’t horrible, it has Unlimited HD, unlike others; though it is a minor difference.

And I have had the error bug on YT. But, overall, I find that it’s okay.

    • Nils Westhoff

      4K if you like xD

  • Samcox

Personaly Youtube is the best, the befering is faster, And Im having issues with blip.tv. I just dont see the point. Keep one of them… Not one for preview and one more for the tutorials… It’s pointless…

  • http://moviemaker.co.nr moviemaker

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

Um, BlipTV might be better quality but it buffers horribly and the player is insanely glitchy. YouTube is reliable, if your just looking at the preview to see how the final effect looks it doesn’t matter if its top notch HD. If your trying to stare at tiny numbers on YT HD then I’d understand your problem. But there is no issue with this, it’s way better.

  • http://bestflashwebsites.blogspot.com Flashy

    THANKS GOD!!!

I love you guys, I hope we switch the tutorials soon too!

  • http://www.adamfarnsworth.com Adam Farnsworth

I’m with Dustin on this. YouTube has horrible quality issues, not to mention an insane user agreement. I guess people aren’t willing to pay for quality HD from Vimeo.

I could take or leave Blip.tv, but YouTube is a big step down. To reiterate Dustin, who would ask for YouTube?

    • Gavin

Vimeo does not allow any commercial videos, or videos embedded on any commercial sites.

      • http://skelliewag.org Skellie

That’s correct. We used to host with Vimeo and they asked us to take down *all* our tutorials because we display advertising and have a Plus program. That was a huge pain in the butt :-P

      • Jasyn

Lol, that is a crazy requirement for Vimeo, hopefully if someone can get a petition going they can change that. I can’t see why they should have that sort of ruling.

  • http://www.visualfxtuts.com Topher Welsh

    man… people are never happy.

As long as things play well… I am stoked.

The reason we switched to Youtube for the previews is mainly because of the replayability. Blip, thought good quality, is quite weak with it’s controls…. Replay only works a quarter of the time and scrubbing is painful. With Youtube, it’ll be a quick load and a quick re-watch if you miss something. The reasons we’re not switching tutorials to Youtube are that Blip allows you to upload and schedule releases to occur at specified later dates (huge workflow plus as editor!) There are also limitations to the length of the uploaded content. Lastly, when Youtube plays ads, unless we’re partners with them (which we’re not yet)… we don’t see any return. Blip, on the other hand, will compensate us for the views to help pay for additional tutorials to be posted…. everything costs money and we do our best so absorb it, but if it wasn’t for the little things like ads and COUGH COUGH… the Plus program, this website couldn’t exist.

    • Dustin

Makes sense! Thanks for taking the time to explain, I REALLY do appreciate it!!

  • Carlos Caballero

you tube’s firewalled at work… this sucks

Even though the preview will be embedded via Youtube, you can still download it from blip… or even go to our channel on blip and view it there.

  • http://www.type-4.com Brock

    youtube is gross nasty.

  • http://www.carlosbatllo.com Carlos Batlló

It’s an improvement, no doubt about it. Maybe youtube is not perfect, but the complains to blip.tv were massive and you guys paid attention to them, which is great.

There is no way to keep everyone happy, but you tried.

    Thanks!

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
    We Can’t See YouTube Videoes…
We Are In IRAN and It’s Locked…
    HHHHHHHHHHEeeeeeeeeeeeey
    But Tnx But For Bliptv….

    • Max

      youtube is blocked? that’s awful.

      • Tom

Buy a VPN service, it’s worth it

    • http://skelliewag.org Skellie

You can still download the previews from Blip.tv – look for the link on tutorial posts.

  • Steven Wilcox

Thank you so much. Its been quite a pain trying to watch the Previews

  • LD

Thanks guys! The Blip previews were painful indeed.

  • http://patrickman1994.deviantart.com Patrick

That is the perfect set up. Too many times have I gone to load a preview, watched a few seconds that loaded and decided it was good enough; then loaded the entire tutorial before realising it wasn’t what I was looking for.

YouTube for previews because it’s quick and easy, blip for the tutorial because its higher definition and can load more than 10 minutes. Genius!

  • http://knalle.dk knalle

great with a better video player!! :)

  • Rick

DAMN IT… WHAT WILL I COMPLAINT ABOUT NOW? : )

  • http://www.rafaelbraga.com Rafael Braga

Great … Now lets see if youtube will work well .

    I hope so.. =)

    Thanks…

  • inertiat

Just my two cents but wouldn’t Vimeo be the best option for previews? It has really good HD – better than Youtube, which in my opinion is quite gritty and judders at times – and is flexible.

Either way, THANK YOU for getting rid of that awful blip.tv viewer for the previews! Every time you wanted to replay the video it would not work and you’d have to reload the page, so this is good news either way.

I’ve been using this site for a few months now and I have to say it’s great to have so much cool free content which is always updated – keep up the good work, there are grateful people out there :D

    • http://skelliewag.org Skellie

Hi inertiat, Vimeo doesn’t allow their videos to be displayed on any ‘commercial’ site. We have some ads and a Plus program, so they’ve said we aren’t allowed.

  • Kai Indvik

Awesome. I think you guys should consider applying for the parnership program…

Youtube is a lot easier to use than blip.tv.

    Keep up the good work
    Kai

  • http://gfxcomplex.com josh chernoff

    1+ vimeo, best quality.

  • http://gfxcomplex.com Josh Chernoff

+1 for vimeo. They have the best quality.

  • jkm

Well… if you use YouTube…there goes a few countries on your list of viewers and potential viewers…

    http://searchengineland.com/your-guide-to-countries-that-have-banned-youtube-12242

On that same note… I believe there are work arounds

  • PavanRzx

hey how about uploading them in vimeo?they r the best players…………

    • http://www.vimeo.com/everettoptions Adam Everett Miller
      Author

There is a weekly upload limit and we’re trying to keep costs down with hope of delivering more content.

      • http://skelliewag.org Skellie

Vimeo also doesn’t allow its content to be delivered on commercial sites.

  • Roald André Pedersen

    Superb!

  • Infaas

How about compressing the video files for download ? without any visible quality loss that is , can ?

    • Infaas

      How about WMV ?
      WMV – 30 minutes = 60 mb
      FLV – 8 MINUTES = 60 MB
      ??

  • Loay Emad

I think this is waaaaaaaay better. Thanks

  • http://steam10.deviantart.com Stefanos Trigas

    Thats what we want :)
    Viva la revolucion!!!

  • SALIENTFILM

THANK YOU!!!!! I HAVE NEVER EVER EVER EVER HAD A CLEAN PREVIEW PLAYBACK ON THIS SITE. NEVER EVER. EVER. AND TO ANYONE MAKING TUTORIALS (EVER), PLEASE CHECK FOR ANY YOUTUBE HD STANDARDS. BEST OF LUCK, AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK (EVERyone)!!

    PEACE

  • freed

Vimeo would be better! But youtube is good.

  • http://www.midnyt.net Greg W

This means I won’t be able to check the previews at work anymore! :(
