Which Tuts+ Site Should We Launch Next?

Which Tuts+ Site Should We Launch Next?

We’re planning our next few Tuts+ sites, and would love your opinion and advice on which topics you think we should cover next! We’d be really grateful if you could take a minute to answer our quick poll and share your thoughts…

Have Your Say

We’ve been considering lots of different ideas for our next Tuts+ sites over the past few weeks, and wanted to also ask the opinion of our awesome community!

A selection of different concepts are included in the poll to the right, along with the option for you to submit your own ideas as well.

The important thing to note is that these are just ideas. Some of these are close to making our final cut, and others aren’t… We’d love to hear what you think, to help guide our decision.

Thanks for taking the time to offer your suggestion — I can’t wait to see what you have to say!

Win a 6-Month Tuts+ Premium Membership

Our poll will be running for the next couple of weeks, and we’ll be choosing one respondent at random to receive a six-month Tuts+ Premium membership!

To be entered into the giveaway, just leave a comment on this post to go into a bit more detail about your site suggestion. We’ll choose one comment at random to win the Tuts+ Premium membership when the poll ends.

Best of luck!

I think that Writingtuts+ is the one! A lot of the options are stuff that goes under other categories. As a film person the thing I struggle most with is pre production. (Post production I have here.) So it is sort of the next step. A lot of things on this website require some sort of planning and Writingtuts+ would be a great way to teach it! Plus with all the digital program creation, Writingtuts+ would get a lot of new/different audiences to the site. Just my humble opinion.

I think “mathtuts+” would be great, if it provided real-world examples targeted to a non-mathlete audience.

I had lots of math classes, but few tied the concepts to practical application, and I’ve forgotten most of it.
I’d like to have a better understanding of mathematical concepts required for programming, underlying computer logic, understanding graphics or video concepts, or that form the foundation behind digital audio, video special effects, etc.

Part of what makes all of those hard for creative people to understand is that “math” is taught (in the U.S.) as a separate, abstract idea of memorized formulas & rules, rather than by showing how you can create cool stuff with it.

Failing that, “gamedevtuts+” would be cool. Take the 3D, Photoshop, mobile, and programming foundations & tie them together while adding gaming design concepts, tuts about game engines, graphics considerations for mobile games, etc…

I think having a Freelance tuts+ would be great. Getting little tips and tricks of different methods other freelancers have would be appreciated by everyone I think!

I think “freelance” and “business” would be great.

As the world moves toward more temporary employment as the standard rather than the exception, freelancing skills and personal business savvy will be vital for creative survival. This is an area where I know I fall down pretty regularly. I’m a creative sort, I’m easily distracted and I want to play with the shiny things. I am not so very interested in the nuts and bolts of business practice, bidding, pitching, pricing, bookkeeping and negotiations. I, and a lot of my peers, see this stuff as a necessary evil of life and take no joy in it, nor do we spend our time efficiently in that realm. These are the sorts of smarts that a lot of us need help with in order to free our minds for the more fulfilling deployment of pixels.

ind.tutsplus.com ^_^ all about indesign now

  • Ecotone

    I would love to have a Freelancetuts+.

All available websites are directly exploring an area that people could work freelance in. I think the only thing that might stop most of us from going for it, is the actual lack of knowledge regarding how to set up a business, how to organise ourselves.

We might have the talent, but we just need some help to shed light on the more obscure side of things.

  • Broonokid

Gamedevtuts+ is probably the best :))

    GameDevTuts+ sounds just incredible!

I think a lot of your core users are nerds at heart and have always dreamt of making their own game, I know I have.

Seriously, even if it’s not your next site I can’t wait to see it up and running eventually.

  • Kaspar

I think WritingTuts+ would be awesome.

  • ajkaczmar

GameDevTuts!!! … and nothing else matters :)

  • mrcapncaveman

I voted for the Freelance as well, although I would love to see someone start some tuts for RealFlow, I’ve seen some pretty amazing fluid effects out there and I believe Realflow is the program behind the majority of them. Thanks.

  • dk47

Cinema4dtuts+, i know they are some tutorials already here, but a cinema4dtuts+ would be amazing!

  • Hydar

I think the next tuts must be about FCP and the rest of Apple software.

  • xandercorp

Gamedev tuts is the only one with a wide enough area, so naturally I think you’ll choose that one, no matter the results of the vote. Let’s be honest, this is about you making money, not about trying to meet the 20 people who voted here’s demands…

Best of luck with your new website.

Freelancetuts+ definitely! As a freelancer it is hard to find useful information about the potential pitfalls of freelancing and if tuts+ launched a site I know that the info there would be just as valuable as the information that is currently available across the entire tuts+ network.

Freelance Tuts for Multimedia Productions ei (video, audio, graphic design, animation)

There is already a “Freelancetuts” page from Envato. It’s FreelanceSwitch.com. The only problem is that it targets freelance writers and web designers more so than multimedia production professionals. If the Tuts+ family could expand the content on this site to cover multimedia production then that would be great. Specifically if it could cover the intricacies and nuances associated with media production and workflows. Interviews with studios, behind the scenes footage, workflow breakdowns, and gadget reviews could and should comprise most of the content.

It can’t be just glossed over info, and top 10 countdowns. It needs to be in-depth and thorough. Especially if your expecting people to pay for it. I’d be more than happy to pay a premium to have an inside look at how some of the more innovative and professional entities operate and achieve their results. Artistic professional love finding out those little tricks and shortcuts that a creator used to achieve a desired result.

And as a commentor stated earlier, as the world moves towards a more freelance driven economic culture, it has become increasingly more important to have a knowledge base to accompany this new marketplace. There isn’t really a site that specializes in this domain. I believe if one existed, then it would go a long way toward pushing the creative envelope by empowering those that might not have known otherwise how to mobilize their talents in pursuit of a decent living.

I would appreciate a lot flashtuts+ I know a lot of people with the knowledge. And there is loads of things you can do on flash for example: Animations, Preloaders, Games, Webpage Design, Interactive things. I think your group will be really interested with Adobe Flash.
I know there is already a webpage of tuts+ but i would like a webpage ONLY for Flash.

I think scripting or programming tuts+ would be good there are a lot of sites out there with it but none are really clear enough and tuts+ is always clear whatever they are talking about.
