I did not see that steak one coming. I gave it a vote along with Ted.

That is pretty harsh! I would love to see what you would do. Really. Even though the contest is over we are still getting project files contributed by our customers etc. Please feel free to show everyone how it is done :-)

      Cheers,

What I don’t get is why this was focused on ShapeShifter, it’s obviously obsolete since Element 3D came out, you can fool yourself all you want Envato, it’s not gonna fly.

I voted for the Gary since he had the cleanest build, the rest either tried way too much and couldn’t get away with it, or too little.

    • Chris

@Xandercorp Obsolete? Hardly! Sales are better than ever :-) Our customers are quite happy with our products.

Much of what I see submitted here cannot be done with E3D. Everything you see was created in After Effects. No C4D or any other 3D app was used. I can attest to this as i went through each and every project file that was submitted.

In summary, each product has it’s strengths and weaknesses. Please refrain from making such broad and really uniformed statements. Please stay positive. Constructive criticism is always welcome :-)

      Cheers,

Alright Chris, I’ll grant you, your plug in does stuff within AE, however the results with the VC plug-in, in my personal opinion, are way better. To me, at least, this plugin is rendered obsolete. Hope that clarifies my earlier comment.

      • Chris

Yes it is very clear that it is not for you :-) I would love to see some of your work BTW. Can you share a link to some of your stuff please.

        Cheers,
        Chris

No, not publicly. I don’t specialize in special effects anyway, I do animation work & compositing mostly.

      • Chris

OK, I can understand that. Send the links to me at chris@mettle.com

I look forward to seeing your work

        Cheers,

I should also add that even with E3D and a dedicated 3D app like C4D, you still could not do some of the things I see done with ShapeShifter AE in the submissions. Just saying :-)

        Cheers,

Yes, Chris, I’m aware, I’ve seen the tutorials, it’s got some good points, like any plug in. Ultimately though if you know how to model, it’s just a step away from animating. Like I said, from my point of view it’s not a new messiah. I like FreeForm though, that one had some interesting applications in the ‘how to rig a character’ set of tutorials.

      • Chris

Thanks for the kind words. I know I am a little biased but I have been working with our products since they were in Alpha (almost 2 years now) and I still find interesting uses for them and a joy to create with.

Here is a link to a clip sent in by one of our customers: http://www.vimeo.com/53990049 He is doing a an in depth tutorial for this. Trevor is very well equipped and has quite the arsenal of tools at his disposal including Maya, Z Brush etc. And he still finds himself turning to our products in AE all the time.

Speaking of FreeForm Pro, here is a teaser for another tutorial that is coming up by Dan Gies: http://www.vimeo.com/53742103

Even more to on the way. Enjoy!

        Cheers,
        Chris

I think it would be a better idea to have these votes done by comment, rather than clicking. I have a dynamic IP address which means I can vote each time I reconnect…

      @ Adrian Christ
I agree! This was quite the surprise, I never saw that coming either. I think Patrick did a hell of a nice job :-) Thanks for taking the time to look through the submissions and for voting :-) I knw the finalists appreciate it too, they worked hard on this.

      Cheers,

I think the most important thing is not choose “the best epic intro”, i about people doing their jobs, having fun e collaborating with site. Congratulations for all. =D

I certainly did not expect this, so thank you very much to Mettle and to AETuts and Envato for running the competition, to all the prize givers, and to those who voted for my entry – I was in very good company.
