It’s Mac Lovers Week at Aetuts!

This is a very action packed week for the Envato network as it turns 3 years old! Well along with that, we happen to be having our own little party “Aetuts+ specific”. We’re excited to celebrate Mac Lovers Week, a week where all our content is Apple-Centric!
If you “option” instead of “alt”… If you were perfectly content without a right click… if you have no clue what a “Start bar” is…

If somebody says “Steve Jobs” and you feel all tingly inside… This is your week!

Things to look forward to this week:

  • Available for download, a free Bad TV Plugin submitted by Satya. This will be an awesome little time saver to have in your toolbox. But guess what, it only works for Macs.
  • Day 2 of the FCP Beginners Tutorials. If you’re just getting started with editing, it’s ok, you still belong!
  • We have a tutorial on how to create the Mac OSX Wallpaper Theme using Zaxwerks Invigorator Pro.
  • We will then being having a Mac OSX Intro Video tutorial by Satya where he’ll be implementing some incredible 3d insight!
  • We’re also going to have an Apple Orchard Roundup where you can pick from a big juicy selection of useful Mac content, so keep checking in!
  • Also, with Envato’s birthday celebration this week, it just so happens that they’re giving away Two 20″ iMacs! (details to come)

We need to know which your prefer!

I’ve gotten a lot of comments alluding to AE users loving their Macs, but I feel like there might be some PC users out there as well… I just don’t know. Here’s what I need. Don’t leave this page until you comment below on what you’re using and why. That’s right, I WANT to know… somebody finally cares what you think. Maybe we’ll count the votes to find out which users truly are proud of their OS!

    pcs forever man

    • Ben Morgan says:

LOL! you need to open your mind and be prepared to work on all sorts of systems if you want to work in this industry.
I have worked in several reputable studios over the past few years, and each one has used different systems, but mostly MAC may I add.

When I was younger, I was like you, a dedicated PC user who had “issues” with MACs.But that was about to change!!
Even though PC’s are what I mainly use at home, until you purchase a high end MAC you will always be missing out on their awesome power and fluid systems. I love my macbook pro, and i love my MAC power PC alll the same as my monster desktop PC. They are all good for different software and different uses.
Learn to love the MAC, they are beautiful machines.

      • Joe says:

Man, how did you glean all this information about kyle from something as simple as “pcs forever man”? You are good! By the way, yes I know Macs dominate the field but there is nothing you can do on a Mac that you can’t do on a PC. Nothing. I own both in case you are wondering.

      • Chip says:

There is, however, something you can do on a PC that you can’t do on a mac. Get a virus :)

      • Matt says:

No, you can get viruses on Mac too. Too bad Mac users are prone to social engineering a bit more than others (with the false feeling that everything will be fine and dandy forever).

      • Devan says:

“yes I know Macs dominate the field but there is nothing you can do on a Mac that you can’t do on a PC”

OSX is a much faster and effect operating system.
Being built on unix mac’s cant get windows style viruses.
Everything on a mac is better. From start up to shut down – the whole experience.

  3. Ivaylo says:

At the moment a PC user, but looking forward to change :)

  4. AEWood says:

This week just keeps getting better and better!

  5. multifrag says:

user of pc and will be.

  6. Kris says:

I use both, but always stick to my mac for any creative projects.

  7. Rob says:

There really can’t be much difference now, especially when your in an app. Its all down to price and if you can stand having some hids dell on your desk…

    Mac forever!!

  8. paul says:

to each his own, but i prefer macs.
i don’t wanna start a war, so i’ll just say it does what i want it to do and it does it in style.

  9. Ray says:

    Boo.
    I prefer windows boxes.

  10. Nicolai says:

I prefer the Windows OS because of the unlimited customization options (granted, you have to fiddle with some Windows files), the way wider variety of applications and most importantly:
I prefer being able to build my own rig (which also is way way way way way cheaper than buying a Mac). Nothing beats finishing your own computer!

  11. Sam says:

I’m using a Mac because they’re faster and more reliable! I don’t use PC’s anymore because I always used to get viruses and malware. Also, programs like Photoshop and Illustrator (as well as AE) run slower on PC’s than they do on Mac. Everything on a Mac has been streamlined to work perfectly. This is why I have a Mac!

  12. Bram says:

I use both but really do prefer working with Mac OS X.

    It just works.

  13. b2bstudios says:

    Mac daddy all the way

  14. Robin says:

I’m a PC user, but maybe a free 20″ iMac can cure that ;)

  15. Nikon says:

    mac > pc

  16. binggeba says:

    I use a Mac at home and a PC work… So I guess I’m somewhere in between…

  17. Jerre says:

I use a mac, done so all my life. I also own a PC, but I think mac is easier to work with since I think the interface is way more user friendly then the PC one, and mac is also more stable, I’m 15 now, have a mac all my life long and I’ve never had a virus. It’s also more stable for webservers since it’s unix based.

There are hunderds of other reasons, but I don’t have time to write that all down now.

  18. Daniel Apt says:

I recently bought a mac and I love using it! I had mayor issues with my pc: blue screens, random crashes, computer not wanting to start up etc.

Now that I have a mac, my work flow’s speed has heavily increased!

  19. Flo says:

I have a now three years old MacBook(1,83 GHz CoreDuo) running MAC OS X 10.4. And yes I run After Effects CS4 on this machine and it’s horrible if you try to render something.
BUT I love my Mac. My Mac opened me the world to all the creative stuff music, video, graphic design. Furthermore I am DJ and so I have to have a computer which I can trust. And I trust my Mac much more and any Windows machine(bad experiences).

  20. Brian Ward says:

PC for business, Mac for pleasure.

  21. Bie Lee says:

    I love my Mac

  22. misha says:

mac, because it just looks better :)

  23. Alex says:

Mac all the way. I switched a year ago and haven’t looked back. I compare it to switching from the pony express to a satellite phone. Everything works smoother and more reliably.

Oh but on a side note the results of this survey might be off because I think less PC users than there actually are will click on the article named Mac Lovers Week. I might be wrong, but just thought I’d throw it out there.

  24. Baltoj says:

i get so sad when the issue of creativity gets mangled with the pc vs. mac discussion.

NO! you are not more creative on a mac. As mentioned earlier in this thread, the application decides – your brain even more so.

    YES! Macs look better

I might get crucified for this…but…pc offer more processing power pr. dollar. when you argue that a mac is faster you have to define what you are comparing with. a pc with roughly same specs at half the cost! in a production workflow for a small business this actually does matter. at this point in time i would argue that a properly tuned pc is the better choice for small media production facilities.
and dont surf the dark side of the net on your production machine!

    • Joe says:

Of course you are not more creative on a mac. And it’s also real obvious that a decked out Windows machine will be much less expensive than a high-end mac computer.

If you buy a mac, you’re paying for their sleek design and apple logo. If you don’t care about that stuff, you’re probably going to use a windows machine :P

  25. Dan P says:

Mac, and I will never look back.

  26. Kai says:

I use a PC. Prices, upgradability, and compatibility.

I’d still like to HAVE a mac, I just can’t afford one.

  27. Ryan McAfee says:

PC. Adobe was designed on it right?

  28. Rick says:

    Mac.

I prefer Mac OS X over Windows, plain and simple.

  29. Nathan says:

Mac. I’m a designer, so like my OS to reflect thoughtful design and UX.

  30. Sven says:

Well, to beat a dead horse, a Mac is a PC (Personal Computer). In the old days we called “PC’s” Wintel machines. Anyways, while pretty much everything Adobe is about the same on both, the Mac OS is incredibly better. It’s ridonculous how much better. To put a number on it, I would have to say 143% better. Maybe more.

  31. Karl says:

PCs suck – in a major, major way. Once you go mac, you don’t go back…

  32. EffectsGroup says:

I am, and always was a PC user. I always thought PC was just built better. Easier to use and get around in. Its more common and more programs and software are built for a PC. I just upgraded a few months ago to a DELL XPS 630i with a Core2 Quad Processor with 8GB RAM and 2TB of memory, running on Windows Vista. Which is an amazing ride, especially working with these VFX software like AE. Then when it came to Macs I would think, small, laptop, office, etc. Nothing for BIG editing and lots of memory. But if for some reason I were to purchase a Mac or win won, I would use it as a secondary computer. Do some editing on it, like audio or, depnding on what it can do, 3d modeling. (Which gets in the way on my computer)

    • Joe says:

You could get a macpro with 8 cores and 8 gigs of RAM. I’m sure that could handle some sort of audio/visual editing :P

However, you could also build a PC with the same specs for like 1/5 the price :D

If you have the money, Macs are nice.

    • Roy42 says:

You realise you said that your PC has 8GB of RAM, which is also known as memory, then said straight after it that it has 2TB of memory? I assume you did mean that it was a 2TB hard drive, but still, I find it amusing that you managed to make that error.

  33. kpott says:

Mac user, and will always be. I don’t think a Mac is more expensive, giving that you’ll probably invest in tech maintenance alot with a PC, and additional software like Anti-virus and such(what i used to do when I started out on a PC). And PC’s are outdated really really fast. Windows keeps on being more power hungry and always needs more space. Snow Leopard is actually getting reduced in size. I still use my G4 which runs leopard really good. It’s 8 years old. Try doing that with a PC and windoze vista or 7.

So bottom line, Macs are a great deal, easy to use, hardly no tech maintenance and look really cool.

    • Joe says:

I don’t think Apple uses some super awesome, different computer hardware that keeps it from being outdated just as fast as “PC hardware.”

Pretty sure a computer is a computer and everything right now will become obsolete all at the same time.

  34. Ive been a Windows guy the most of my life, but at work we use Mac’s only (Final Cut Pro), so I switched to that and i have to say that its just amazing. The new Mac Pro is a pleasure to work with. Two QuadCore and 6GB of Ram.. Rawwrr :D

As one said earlier up this thread; “Once you go mac, you never go back”!

  35. Bruno-Pierre says:

Macs all the way! The OS is wayyy wayyy wayyy more user friendly than Windows and will always be. I’m using macs since 2004 and never had problem finding any apps that I needed. Never had a virus too!

  36. Patrick Theisen says:

PC, simply because its more cost effective. I haven’t had enough problems with Windows to make the extra cost of a Mac worth it.

Someday when I have extra money to throw around I’ll get a Mac and see what all the excitement is about.

  37. Ryan says:

I am indifferent. I see both of them as having pros and cons and they are two great os alone.

  38. josh says:

    MAC > pc

  39. Martin says:

turned to mac 2 years ago and never turning back

  40. Adam says:

Mac, because of the video editing suite. I love my pcs, but I love my macs way more.

  41. brian says:

I have used, mac os, xp and 7 in the past. I am totally happy with windows 7 (which I regularly use now), and have no plans to do the big switch especailly with all the cool additions and usability features of 7.

People are suckered into the marketing of Windows vs. Mac and make ridiculous arguments for the OS of his/her choice. Be objective and look at whole picture.

Thanks for asking Aetuts+. I appreciate it.

  42. Joe says:

I’ve been using Windows for a really, really long time. However, I just recently bought a new macbook pro. It’s probably the best computer I’ve ever owned, but I’ll still continue to use Windows machines as well.

It is retardedly easy to use a mac though and at the same time very powerful which is why they are fun to use.

I have a PC desktop, PC laptop, and a Mac laptop. When I’m at home, I’ll probably use my desktop, but if I’m not I’ll definitely have my mac with me instead of my PC laptop.

In the end, if you can somehow pick up a mac, do it. They’re fun :P

  43. Topher Welsh says:

if I was a little richer I would be mac. haha

Till then, I stick with my PC, get the same amount of power for a couple grand less.

  44. jim hines says:

News Flash – there is no difference. It’s all the same hardware. Mac zealots for years bragged about their superior operating system. Then Jobs came back and completely dumped it for OS X. The Mac zealots immediately bowed down in awe although it was a POS for the first few iterations. At that time all that separated the Mac fantasy users superiority complex was the microprocessor. The painfully slow Motorola Power PC reduced instruction set – easy melt model. Guess what? Macs use Intel chips now just like windows boxes. There is nothing wrong with a Mac accept the pretentious snobbery of the Mac fundamentalist and the ridiculous price tag. And who says they look better. How about that clam shell laptop, the cube? the iMac that looks like the lamp from the Pixar opening, the original iMac Yuck. Looking at my old Macs is like looking at bad fashions from the seventies. You just can’t believe people were wearing those striped bell bottoms and platform shoes.

I doesn’t matter to me what I work on as long as it’s got enough memory a powerful chip a good graphics card and fast hard drives.

  45. Won N. says:

Bootcamp!!! Love the Style and for the most part stability of Mac OS, Love the compatibility of Windows with most any hardware and software.

Love my Mac Pro for work, Love my windows PC for fun.

    Three biggest downsides of Mac:
Ever try Gaming on a Mac….hah
Ever try finding printer drivers on a Mac… rough
Ever try uninstalling big programs on a Mac… good luck on your hunt

Other than that… Love Mac OS… Bring on Snow Leopard
and… I will be using Windows 7 as well.

  46. Twocifer says:

Mac convert of 2 1/2 years. Have a MacBook Pro at home, a Mac Pro and Win PC laptop at my desk at work, and a iMac in our editing room (Corporate structure requires me to have the Win PC).

I first learned to do design on a Win PC, so I can’t knock it, but I prefer designing/editing on a Mac far more than on Win PC.

  47. Liam says:

Was an avid Pc user up until about a month ago when i bought a 24inch 2.93ghz imac. Best decision of my life. ever.

I’ve dual booted it to windows 7 however so i can play games

although i could do with a 20inch imac to go next to my 24inch imac…

  48. I use Mac. It makes me feel better, as well as more creative. I don’t want to say that the tool makes the work, but I just feel better with It.

  49. I have a macbook that I bought 2 years ago, was my first switch to Mac from PC. I still build high end gaming desktop PC’s though I prefer the Mac OS with it’s intuitive UI.

I will continue to be a mix user – get the best of both worlds
