Elemental Combat Series On Aetuts+

Hey guys! How about a week of compositing tutorials on some action filled scenes like from The Last Airbender? Sound good? If so, awesome, you’re in for a treat. We’ve got 4 days of new tutorials for your learnin’ pleasure! I’ll show you how to make some electric arcing from your hand, form and shoot a fireball, and tunnel through the ground.

These tutorials are covering the effects found in my Elemental Kombat video which you can watch below.

Also… here’s a sneak peek of what we’ll be covering this week! Check it out :)

See you tomorrow for Day 1!

It’s cool, and I like the concept. But I’d just be cautious to not be reteaching the same things that have already been covered on Videocopilot. There were definitely some original effects, but a good portion were from previous tutorials and obviously all the stock footage/lens flares are from there. I’m interested to see it though!

I try to teach original things. That’s why there will not be a tutorial on the part where the girl flies out of the sky. The essence of that effect has already been tutorialized.

How do I achieve the ink drop effect? I know how to make the light trail but would like to know how to make that ink drop explosion plus where can I get the sound fx?

Looks good. Amazing even when the girl comes from the sky! But, how is this your full time job?

As a youtube partner I make money from views. But seeing as you need a LOT of views for it to be sustainable, I’m essentially making nothing right now from it. I consider it a business. I need to put in a LOT of effort for a long period of time before it really starts going anywhere. I just graduated college and have some money saved up, so I figured if there’s EVER a time in my life where i should go for it, it’s now. I’m still developing my own skills, but I’m hoping that now that I’m devoting myself full time I can see some accelerated progress in production quality.

    cool..

Does anyone have a link to a tutorial of the girl flying? since it’s not gonna be covered?

    thanks,
    Derrick

    • Helge says:

For the girl flying he used stock footage of an ink drop, then a trail of smoke and a optical flare. Pretty simple, yet cool stuff. Check out VideoCopilot’s tutorial for the smoke trail with flare (called “102. Smoke Trails”)

      • Author

Yup! That’s pretty much exactly it. I set up a camera that followed the smoke trail from way out until really close and animated the flare accordingly.

I used several tutorials on this site to make this video of my holiday in Manicore, a small town in Amazon, Brazil

  12. Mindesign says:

Hi Leon, your link resulted as an error. So here is the corrected way. BTW, pretty good. It seemed you guys had fun.

  13. Alex says:

What exact stock footage did you use for the ink drop? and where can I get a sound fx like that?
