That winner is a deserving one.
    It’s purely awesome!

  5. Thanks folks!

If there is a common interrest in a tutorial, I might do one!

    Morten

  6. thomas_017 says:

Wow, what a brilliant winner, well done =D

As for the tutorial, I think there may be a big interest in how you did it (:

  7. Melody says:

That is too cool, love how it wiggles a little..

  8. Justin says:

Great job Morten! I knew it was you all along. You are super talented and I am grateful to have this 2nd place honor. It was a blast!

    • nope says:

how you did this please give us your tutorial justin

    • Thank you Justin! I most say that it was a pleasure whatching yours ;)

Only critics is, that I think you should have made it much shorter. maybe 10 – 12 secs!

      Morten

      • michael says:

disagree, I think the timing and pace is just right.
If you put it in 10-12 seconds, the humor wouldn’t work that well.

      • “disagree, I think the timing and pace is just right.
If you put it in 10-12 seconds, the humor wouldn’t work that well.”

But not for a Logo Reveal in my oppinion. It should be short and imformative.

Justin’s length on it now is almost like a long TV commercial!, intros for TV and Sports are most likely 10 – 16 secs long! I know this is not a tv show intro nor is it a sports intro, but Logo Reveals are shorter in my oppinion! At least from what I’ve experienced in my daily work.

Anyway, really nice animation, and congrats with the 2nd place! :)

      • michael says:

You are right, intros in general should be kept as short as possible, practically and in terms of “power”, but this one simply doesn’t work in a faster pace and it didn’t bother me at all being “too long” – pace is just right, lenght is absolutely ok because it’s entertaining every second and manages to connect to the audience.

But I agree that in general, lenght and pace should be as you say (and perfectly did in your winner clip), at least from what I’ve experienced in my daily work as well ;)

    • michael says:

btw, don’t get me wrong Morten, if I were aetuts+ and this logo reveal was considered to being actually used I would have picked yoursl :)

      • I agree. If I were aetuts+ and I were actually picking a logo reveal to use in a commercial sense, Morten’s would be my number 1 pick. It’s stylish professional, quick, and also expands on the entire tuts+ network. No doubt about it.

It’s just this contest in particular was supposed to be about originality, uniqueness, and “out of the box” thinking, and Morten’s just seems too typical and commercial for that type of contest. Well done and practical to be sure, but not too original.

I also think that’s why aetuts gave us a :30 time limit. Somewhat long for a traditional logo reveal, but they wanted something more than just the traditional; they wanted us to be free to try something new and unique, and the longer time limit allowed us that.

I could be totally mistaken, but that is what aetuts+ mentioned in the guidelines for this contest. But in the end, they were the judges, and they must have found Morten’s to be very original, because they awarded it first place, and that’s what matters. Disappointing to the rest of us, maybe, but our opinions don’t change anything.

  9. ROMULUS says:

Amazing , maybe the tuto would be most appreciated

  10. ALLISTER GOURLAY says:

Brilliant! please can we get a Tut for this!

  11. lder says:

    tut please !!!

  12. Ben Carroll says:

Oh darn. I was going to enter but got real busy with other stuff. All well the winning entry looks really good.

  13. Tyler says:

The first place was is very impressive. A tutorial on it would be great!

I had more fun watching the 2nd place winner though (I found it more entertaining, although not as flashy).

  14. Ghost Digital says:

Damn, I should have payed attention and actually entered something, considering a box won.

  15. Stefano says:

ma assumancu scimpru non asi bintu nudda mi du poriasta scii

  16. jaco says:

Very surprised that was what won. A 3d spinning box with a reflection? seriously.
What happened to them saying “we want to be blown away by your originality”????

Not taking anything away from the winner. Congrats. Just surprised it didn’t take more execution to win.

    • elmood says:

I totally agree. I was hoping it was going to do more after the 1st rotation. Looks like a 2nd year student project. Not that impressed.

      2.5 outta 5

Please don’t do a tutorial on this.

    • I agree, jaco. While the winner is far and away one of the best technically speaking, I thought I remember aetuts saying “We will be expecting you to think outside the box and delight us with your originality!”

Sad to see many of the logo reveals aren’t extraordinarily original or “outside the box.” They are still very well done and professional looking, don’t get me wrong. I just thought Aetuts was looking for something different. Sad to see mine wasn’t mentioned as I felt it was pretty original and well done:

      http://vimeo.com/5853215

I also thought this one was one of the best I saw and it’s not mentioned either:

    • Oliver says:

I love the concept to reality with the squirrel. I can’t believe that AT LEAST didn’t make it into the honourable mentions.

I’ll give the people’s choice award [awarded by me]. This doesn’t come with any flashy prizes, just a smug satisfaction that people really like what you do. I prefer it to all of the others up on this page, it’s just got some heart to it and the others just seem a bit clinical to me. Good Job!

  17. Jef says:

Those are some awesome motion graphics. Wish I could do something like that!

  18. Tim says:

The level is low… All these creations are amateurish.

I think you would gave a lot more time for such pieces. You can’t give someone 15 days to make a poster and somebody else the same 15 days to make an animated work ! It’s a lot more complex and long, nobody can achieve a real piece of animated art in 15 days only in the spare time.

  19. Nikko says:

    Uber coooooooolll… Really amazing.

  20. Tom Newbold says:

Its good but second place so shud of won! my me laugh so much!

  21. Momcilo Stojkovic says:

aetuts logo at the end, is it made in some 3D app or AE 100% ??

  22. josh says:

    Definitely a tutorial… Please… Great stuff

  23. pixel vasco says:

Just from my perspective, the animation in second place should be the winner: 100% ORIGINAL, FUN & AND VERY WELL EXECUTED.

    Best regards.

  24. Fraize says:

Really cool ! I really like all this videos

  25. Oliver says:

I have to say there is some really good work in this competition, some of my favourite stuff is in the runners up category though.

  26. Really great entries, the 2nd one made me laugh

  27. I thought the winners were well done. I especially enjoyed 2nd place. It’s upsetting that mine wasn’t even mentioned considering it was much more original and advanced than many of the logo reveals displayed here.

I never even got an e-mail confirming that they received my entry even though I submitted it a day before the deadline.

    http://vimeo.com/5853215

I had high hopes for it and was very proud, but alas, oh well.

    • Manuel F. Rugeles says:

Hello, very nice animation. You were suposed to get an email confirmation? I did not get one either. I submited my entry very close to the deadline because I found out about the contest 4 days before the deadline. But I did submit it before midnight. Anyway, my congratulations to the winners.
I´m gonna share mine and post the link here so you can watch it.
Mine in on youtube cause I did not have time to get an account on vimeo to upload it there.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0QyioMmeLw&feature=channel_page

      • Manuel, very nice motion and sound design. The movement/speed really flowed well with the audio you used. It felt very tangible in that space however simple the shapes and elements may have been.

I don’t think there was any e-mail confirmation, that’s why I was surprised the winners were announced so soon, because I never even heard from them that my submission was received. I trusted it was, but was totally in the dark and hoped the internet didn’t screw up when I submitted the form. Because I never heard any news, I had no clue if everything went smoothly or not.

      • Greg says:

Very cool man. You so should have been up there with the best. I really like your creativity.

      • Manuel F. Rugeles says:

Hey, glad you like it, thanks for the coments.

My humble opinion is that the winners are works carried out very well technically. Very pretty graphics and animation but I´m not very convinced about the way the logo is revealed at the end. I would expect more. I also think the second place is better as it tells a litlle funny story, and I find it more creative.

Cogratulations to all and what really matters is to participate and show to the motion graphics comunity out there our work.

My personal favorite is Greg Balint´s work and the one with the squirrel and the hanging text is amazing too.

      • Oliver says:

Wow, good job and really nice idea.

  28. Jim Musana says:

    Brilliant!

If i may ask, what plug in did you use for the flare? I keep seeing this type of flare in Music Videos and Andrew Kramer’s works but i’ve never figured out which plug-in it is.Its really cool!

    Please advise.

  29. Joseph says:

jojo great Job. i like learn more and more about motion graphics :) , so i cant wait for the Tut..

  30. udon says:

    TUTS..please ¡¡ =)

  31. fidget says:

great entries. the second place winner was by far my favorite.

  32. TMKdesigner says:

Wow there’s some awesome talent out there :)

  33. Jan says:

    really nice work :-)

  34. aetutsman says:

sorry but the 2nd place must be the first place, its pretty original and awesome. the 1st place easy to do. i give my admiration to the 2nd place.

  35. Marco says:

    GREAT EVERYONE!!!!!!
we want videotutorial for everyone!!!! PLEASEEE

  36. GrandZero says:

the second one is waaaay better than the first! the winner even seems to be the worst entry of all I’ve seen so far….

  37. aetutsman says:

im watching the rest of the videos, and really, the first place is wrong.

  38. zuza says:

All congrats to winner, nice idea and the design too…
    But…
    The second winner is Awesome!!!
    Animation it’s just perfect!

  39. schönlign w. wunderbar says:

really nice spots… each of them could be used as a real commercial

  40. Johan Marklund says:

Really nice first place video, and number 2 is very funny :D

  41. ckRED says:

an animated box in a common flashy graphics environment is the winner?
what about the “think outside the box” thing? I like 2nd place way more, it has emotions to it

  42. Sal says:

Holy suffering suckatash how did you guys pick a winner? Those were awesome motion graphics. All of them!

Maybe the managers of the site should get all the finalists to write tuts. You’ve got enough material there for a few weeks.

  43. kylian says:

    very good spots

  44. Jon Draper says:

all very very nice….wanted to make one too but too busy…preparing for new baby arrival and stuff.

    Next time though.

Like them all, but best for entertainment is the very pixar esque 2nd place one.

The winner has some cool particle stuff going on in the background.

As everyone says, be great to see tutorials for each and everyone….

Also how were the letter animated on the 2nd one? Puppet Tool? Corner Pin? etc etc….

  45. Justin says:

Just used careful positioning, unklocked scaling(so the letters could stretch, ALOT of trial and error and patience. Thanks for the kind words. I thought there were so many great videos!

  46. josh says:

Amazing work people, It would be great if some Tuts came out of these videos. It would really help us out.

    Good Job.

    Thanks.

  47. Priyesh says:

cool, at least my video is the first of the runner ups :-)

  48. Priyesh says:

p.s.: I know my clip is not very complex, but I ask anyway : anybody interested in a tutorial?

  49. Chris says:

I personally like Greg Balint’s entry a lot… Could you please make a tut greg? I think that effect is really cool…Thanks!

    • delRazor says:

I’m just coming back from a 2 week vacation and i’m trying to catch up on a lot of work at the studio, but I’ll see if I can make time.. Thanks for the comment, and we’ll see if I can get something together soon.
