As for the tutorial, I think there may be a big interest in how you did it (:
( )Melody August 3rd
That is too cool, love how it wiggles a little..
( )Justin August 3rd
Great job Morten! I knew it was you all along. You are super talented and I am grateful to have this 2nd place honor. It was a blast!
( )nope August 5th
how you did this please give us your tutorial justin
( )Morten Kuhl Christensen August 5th
Thank you Justin! I most say that it was a pleasure whatching yours
Only critics is, that I think you should have made it much shorter. maybe 10 – 12 secs!
Morten
( )michael August 5th
disagree, I think the timing and pace is just right.
If you put it in 10-12 seconds, the humor wouldn’t work that well.
Morten Kuhl Christensen August 5th
“disagree, I think the timing and pace is just right.
If you put it in 10-12 seconds, the humor wouldn’t work that well.”
But not for a Logo Reveal in my oppinion. It should be short and imformative.
Justin’s length on it now is almost like a long TV commercial!, intros for TV and Sports are most likely 10 – 16 secs long! I know this is not a tv show intro nor is it a sports intro, but Logo Reveals are shorter in my oppinion! At least from what I’ve experienced in my daily work.
Anyway, really nice animation, and congrats with the 2nd place!
michael August 6th
You are right, intros in general should be kept as short as possible, practically and in terms of “power”, but this one simply doesn’t work in a faster pace and it didn’t bother me at all being “too long” – pace is just right, lenght is absolutely ok because it’s entertaining every second and manages to connect to the audience.
But I agree that in general, lenght and pace should be as you say (and perfectly did in your winner clip), at least from what I’ve experienced in my daily work as well
michael August 6th
btw, don’t get me wrong Morten, if I were aetuts+ and this logo reveal was considered to being actually used I would have picked yoursl
( )AaronJamesPatterson August 7th
I agree. If I were aetuts+ and I were actually picking a logo reveal to use in a commercial sense, Morten’s would be my number 1 pick. It’s stylish professional, quick, and also expands on the entire tuts+ network. No doubt about it.
It’s just this contest in particular was supposed to be about originality, uniqueness, and “out of the box” thinking, and Morten’s just seems too typical and commercial for that type of contest. Well done and practical to be sure, but not too original.
I also think that’s why aetuts gave us a :30 time limit. Somewhat long for a traditional logo reveal, but they wanted something more than just the traditional; they wanted us to be free to try something new and unique, and the longer time limit allowed us that.
I could be totally mistaken, but that is what aetuts+ mentioned in the guidelines for this contest. But in the end, they were the judges, and they must have found Morten’s to be very original, because they awarded it first place, and that’s what matters. Disappointing to the rest of us, maybe, but our opinions don’t change anything.
ROMULUS August 3rd
Amazing , maybe the tuto would be most appreciated
( )ALLISTER GOURLAY August 3rd
Brilliant! please can we get a Tut for this!
( )lder August 3rd
tut please !!!
( )Ben Carroll August 3rd
Oh darn. I was going to enter but got real busy with other stuff. All well the winning entry looks really good.
( )Tyler August 3rd
The first place was is very impressive. A tutorial on it would be great!
I had more fun watching the 2nd place winner though (I found it more entertaining, although not as flashy).
( )Bc August 4th
Yeah 2nd place rocks.
( )Adds the human element.
Great idea…..
Joe August 4th
I also thought the 2nd place piece was more impressive.
( )James Twyman August 4th
Yeah i think second place should have won, it had more personality to it
( )lettuce destroyer August 5th
I can’t really decide which is better, would like to see tuts for both
( )Ghost Digital August 3rd
Damn, I should have payed attention and actually entered something, considering a box won.
( )Myaka August 3rd

( )Joe August 4th

( )Stefano August 3rd

( )jaco August 3rd
Very surprised that was what won. A 3d spinning box with a reflection? seriously.
What happened to them saying “we want to be blown away by your originality”????
Not taking anything away from the winner. Congrats. Just surprised it didn’t take more execution to win.
( )elmood August 3rd
I totally agree. I was hoping it was going to do more after the 1st rotation. Looks like a 2nd year student project. Not that impressed.
2.5 outta 5
Please don’t do a tutorial on this.
( )AaronJamesPatterson August 3rd
I agree, jaco. While the winner is far and away one of the best technically speaking, I thought I remember aetuts saying “We will be expecting you to think outside the box and delight us with your originality!”
Sad to see many of the logo reveals aren’t extraordinarily original or “outside the box.” They are still very well done and professional looking, don’t get me wrong. I just thought Aetuts was looking for something different. Sad to see mine wasn’t mentioned as I felt it was pretty original and well done:
http://vimeo.com/5853215
I also thought this one was one of the best I saw and it’s not mentioned either:
http://vimeo.com/5839877
( )Justin Brown August 3rd
I think that you video looks great!
James August 4th
I agree,
Your entry was quite cute and the squirrel one is really nicely put together.
I still really liked the 2nd place winner as it has some personality and thought put behind it. Definitely wouldn’t have picked the spinning box as 1st place although it too is well executed.
pixel vasco August 4th
http://vimeo.com/5839877 ….
LOVE THE TEXT HANGING ON THE STRINGS … DID U USE EXPRESSIONS? OR ANY OTHER TECHNIQUE ?
Rafael Guerra August 4th
your video is indeed very good and creative! You should still try to make a tut on it and send it to AeTuts.

Oliver August 4th
I love the concept to reality with the squirrel. I can’t believe that AT LEAST didn’t make it into the honourable mentions.
I’ll give the people’s choice award [awarded by me]. This doesn’t come with any flashy prizes, just a smug satisfaction that people really like what you do. I prefer it to all of the others up on this page, it’s just got some heart to it and the others just seem a bit clinical to me. Good Job!
( )Jef August 3rd
Those are some awesome motion graphics. Wish I could do something like that!
( )Tim August 3rd
The level is low… All these creations are amateurish.
I think you would gave a lot more time for such pieces. You can’t give someone 15 days to make a poster and somebody else the same 15 days to make an animated work ! It’s a lot more complex and long, nobody can achieve a real piece of animated art in 15 days only in the spare time.
( )Myaka August 4th
Those are mine works done in 6 days each in spare evening times:

BUT not icluding sound/music work of course!
( )Lyndon August 5th
Dude i loved the tree of death one! i was all like, whats the tree gonna do, kill him w/ bandaids? that was funny as hell to see the follow up after thinking that.
good job w/ ur 3d motion tracking too, i liked the way u blended your 3d elements w/ the natural scenery. too cool.
Nikko August 3rd
Uber coooooooolll… Really amazing.
( )Rafael Guerra August 3rd
WOW…speechless.
( )Tom Newbold August 3rd
Its good but second place so shud of won! my me laugh so much!
( )Momcilo Stojkovic August 3rd
aetuts logo at the end, is it made in some 3D app or AE 100% ??
( )Nikko August 3rd
I’d say 3D only.
( )Luc Baracat August 4th
No he said 98% after effects^^
josh August 3rd
Definitely a tutorial… Please… Great stuff
( )pixel vasco August 3rd
Just from my perspective, the animation in second place should be the winner: 100% ORIGINAL, FUN & AND VERY WELL EXECUTED.
Best regards.
( )Fraize August 3rd
Really cool ! I really like all this videos
( )Oliver August 3rd
I have to say there is some really good work in this competition, some of my favourite stuff is in the runners up category though.
( )Max Stanworth August 3rd
Really great entries, the 2nd one made me laugh
( )AaronJamesPatterson August 3rd
I thought the winners were well done. I especially enjoyed 2nd place. It’s upsetting that mine wasn’t even mentioned considering it was much more original and advanced than many of the logo reveals displayed here.
I never even got an e-mail confirming that they received my entry even though I submitted it a day before the deadline.
http://vimeo.com/5853215
I had high hopes for it and was very proud, but alas, oh well.
( )Manuel F. Rugeles August 3rd
Hello, very nice animation. You were suposed to get an email confirmation? I did not get one either. I submited my entry very close to the deadline because I found out about the contest 4 days before the deadline. But I did submit it before midnight. Anyway, my congratulations to the winners.
I´m gonna share mine and post the link here so you can watch it.
Mine in on youtube cause I did not have time to get an account on vimeo to upload it there.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0QyioMmeLw&feature=channel_page
( )AaronJamesPatterson August 3rd
Manuel, very nice motion and sound design. The movement/speed really flowed well with the audio you used. It felt very tangible in that space however simple the shapes and elements may have been.
I don’t think there was any e-mail confirmation, that’s why I was surprised the winners were announced so soon, because I never even heard from them that my submission was received. I trusted it was, but was totally in the dark and hoped the internet didn’t screw up when I submitted the form. Because I never heard any news, I had no clue if everything went smoothly or not.
Greg August 4th
Very cool man. You so should have been up there with the best. I really like your creativity.
Manuel F. Rugeles August 4th
Hey, glad you like it, thanks for the coments.
My humble opinion is that the winners are works carried out very well technically. Very pretty graphics and animation but I´m not very convinced about the way the logo is revealed at the end. I would expect more. I also think the second place is better as it tells a litlle funny story, and I find it more creative.
Cogratulations to all and what really matters is to participate and show to the motion graphics comunity out there our work.
My personal favorite is Greg Balint´s work and the one with the squirrel and the hanging text is amazing too.
Oliver August 4th
Wow, good job and really nice idea.
Jim Musana August 3rd
Brilliant!
If i may ask, what plug in did you use for the flare? I keep seeing this type of flare in Music Videos and Andrew Kramer’s works but i’ve never figured out which plug-in it is.Its really cool!
Please advise.
( )Zuyva August 3rd
That’s a Lens Flare. Andrew K. made a plug-in that allows you to make make one on your composition
( )Momcilo Stojkovic August 4th
Andrew Kramer Lens Flare?? On what video?
Joseph August 3rd
jojo great Job. i like learn more and more about motion graphics
, so i cant wait for the Tut..
( )udon August 4th
TUTS..please ¡¡ =)
( )fidget August 4th
great entries. the second place winner was by far my favorite.
( )TMKdesigner August 4th
Wow there’s some awesome talent out there
( )Jan August 4th
really nice work
( )aetutsman August 4th
sorry but the 2nd place must be the first place, its pretty original and awesome. the 1st place easy to do. i give my admiration to the 2nd place.
( )Marco August 4th
GREAT EVERYONE!!!!!!
( )we want videotutorial for everyone!!!! PLEASEEE
GrandZero August 4th
the second one is waaaay better than the first! the winner even seems to be the worst entry of all I’ve seen so far….
( )aetutsman August 4th
im watching the rest of the videos, and really, the first place is wrong.
( )zuza August 4th
All congrats to winner, nice idea and the design too…
( )But…
The second winner is Awesome!!!
Animation it’s just perfect!
schönlign w. wunderbar August 4th
really nice spots… each of them could be used as a real commercial
( )Johan Marklund August 4th
Really nice first place video, and number 2 is very funny
( )ckRED August 4th
an animated box in a common flashy graphics environment is the winner?
( )what about the “think outside the box” thing? I like 2nd place way more, it has emotions to it
Sal August 4th
Holy suffering suckatash how did you guys pick a winner? Those were awesome motion graphics. All of them!
Maybe the managers of the site should get all the finalists to write tuts. You’ve got enough material there for a few weeks.
( )kylian August 4th
very good spots
( )Jon Draper August 4th
all very very nice….wanted to make one too but too busy…preparing for new baby arrival and stuff.
Next time though.
Like them all, but best for entertainment is the very pixar esque 2nd place one.
The winner has some cool particle stuff going on in the background.
As everyone says, be great to see tutorials for each and everyone….
Also how were the letter animated on the 2nd one? Puppet Tool? Corner Pin? etc etc….
( )Justin August 4th
Just used careful positioning, unklocked scaling(so the letters could stretch, ALOT of trial and error and patience. Thanks for the kind words. I thought there were so many great videos!
( )josh August 4th
Amazing work people, It would be great if some Tuts came out of these videos. It would really help us out.
Good Job.
Thanks.
( )Priyesh August 4th
cool, at least my video is the first of the runner ups
( )Priyesh August 4th
p.s.: I know my clip is not very complex, but I ask anyway : anybody interested in a tutorial?
( )g August 4th
i would definitely like to see a tutorial on your video
( )lawrence77 August 4th
I want….
( )Priyesh August 4th
ok!
Chris August 4th
I personally like Greg Balint’s entry a lot… Could you please make a tut greg? I think that effect is really cool…Thanks!
( )delRazor August 10th
I’m just coming back from a 2 week vacation and i’m trying to catch up on a lot of work at the studio, but I’ll see if I can make time.. Thanks for the comment, and we’ll see if I can get something together soon.
( )michael August 4th
If people would have voted I guess second place had won this contest easily…
first place is great but for me somehow too clean and sterile and I miss that special something like the charm the runner up vid has.
Could you guys at aetuts+ point out what your criteria have been? you know…make this a bit more transparent for us to be able to relate to your decision ? would be very cool!
( )Rob August 4th
Great work here. Like everyone here, I’d like to see tutorials on each. Congrats to the winner and I thought the number two entry was exceptional maybe because the humour added an extra connection to the audience because all were technically perfect.
( )Aly August 4th
I really like the last one by Kai Honeck. Props
( )Kai August 5th
Thank you, very much.
I’m considering doing a tutorial on it, if I get enough support.
( )LD August 8th
I second that. I love the molecules concept. Very cool.
Trevor August 4th
WOW! I have to say that the second place one and the very last honorable mention are my favorites! But everyone, well done! It all looks great!
( )lawrence77 August 4th
All works are awesome..
I think there is difficult for the judge to select!
I like the second prize logo, its amazing, funny and cool… its worth for the first prize from my view…
Anyway cool competition nice creativity all over the competitors…
( )Menesesvfx August 4th
very nice the winner is excelent
( )Roy LaManna August 4th
yes.. Tutorials are definitely needed and appreciated!!! Nice job guys
( )Ghost Digital August 5th
I keep seeing posts concerned with how a box won especaiily when part of the criteria was to “think outside the box”. I have thought about this and think the crteria was nothing more than a mere typo and should have read as “make it a box”. Now I understand how it won, the others were not boxes
( )SG August 5th
Your message made me laugh (:
–
Nothing against the winner but holy smokes that second video is waaay more fun and original.
I’m interested in knowing how did the team pick the winner ?!
( )fry August 5th
The second place is definetly 1000 times better then the first.. the first is just so typical… i am dissapointed that he win and not the second!!
( )Malte August 5th
I love the 2nd placed even more
( )Rafael Guerra August 5th
me too…it reminds me of the PIXAR studios logo…so cool!
( )Matthias August 5th
ATTENTION!
For me some videos didn’t work!
“Sorry, this video cannot played on this side”
Thanks!
( )Rusmelok August 5th
Super ! Nice nice nice ))
( )Please tutorials !
BILLY August 5th
WHERE DID THE TUTORIAL GO THAT WAS POSTED THIS MORNING?????
Only one tutorial last week……and appears only one this week? There was a 2nd….WHERE DID IT GO????
( )Johnny Doey August 5th
It was a copy (or better to say, a rip-off) of another Tut from another site. So they deleted it, Billy.
( )Morten Kuhl Christensen August 5th
It was a ripoff from one of FXPHD tutorials.. Fxphd contacted AETUTS and they removed it!
( )naeim August 5th
2nd place should have been first place I agree with all of u. First place looses a lot of its glamour with so much clutter and stuff going on plus the box doesnt really represent what every side of the tuts+ network is. I think the tuts+ ppl were a bit unfair and decided to go with one of their most active tutorial producer plus add the fact that he used the other tuts+ as leverage instead of sticking with the ae reveal
( )Ace August 5th
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npqzBtJ2Gco
( )ckRED August 5th
AETUTS+, almost everybody here agrees that 2nd place should have won this competition.
So please explain your criteria for picking your winner.
And who decided: a jury? – how many persons? – guys from toolfarm involved?
Make this transparent, please!
I’m sure a lot of people, especially the users that participated, would like to get at least some explanation
( )Morten Kuhl Christensen August 5th
Would like to know that too
( )Rafael Guerra August 5th
LOL…guys, the first entry was awesome. I think the second one was amazing too. The judges probably had a very hard time chosing between them…but that´s where the small details come in and decide…
( )Morten Kühl Christensen August 6th
Thank you Rafeal
AaronJamesPatterson August 5th
The sad thing is the “2nd place winner” really wasn’t even judged as 2nd place as Aetuts said, “We will also select one entrant at random to win a 1 year Plus membership.”
So the 2nd place winner was actually just a random selection. Kinda sad seeing as how good it is. It deserves more attention than just a random draw out of a hat, I feel. But at least he won something for his efforts.
( )f1a5h84ck August 7th
I vote for the Justin Brown! I think he deserves the first place.
( )Nikola Nedevski August 5th
I like the second .. funny one
( )iamthe202 August 6th
WOW!
( )REALLY FREAKING AMAZING!
I want the tuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks you very much!!!!!!!
Stefanobeck August 6th
Good work, it’s possible the tutorial for all the video?????
( )f1a5h84ck August 7th
Justin Brown is the best!
( )He-he-he…
tshirt-printer August 7th
Some nice slick videos submitted I’m really impressed!
( )Matthew August 7th
I think the last one should of been first. Simple and amazing.
( )random August 9th
2nd one is way better than the first. at least for the fact that it has a story, is clever and funny. the first one is simply… dull. although technically superior.
( )ASHISH CHAUHAN August 9th
Well personally i had this feeling that original logo to be used was emphasized so much and our winner has 1 of its our own…….never mind no hard feelings ……….just a personal thought……………..
2nd place was infact way too good and original……
anyways never mind m just a new kid on AE trying to learn from wrevr it might come……..tutorials from all of them r welcomed n m waitin…
mine unofficial entry for AETUTS+……. obviously looks gud wd music rather dn official…………
http://www.vimeo.com/5857905
thnx
( )DAN August 10th
I thought some of the honorable mentions were better than the actual winning entry. Hmm. Just my opinion.
( )david August 14th
Hola muy buenos los trabajos ,hise uno parecido al segundo puesto
